Should the developers include their own mech designs?

Once we start down the path of the Frankenmech, we lose what Mechwarrior/Battletech is.

yep first of all that... there´s way enough mechs in the technical readouts... and noone really need something like "supermechs" omg...i played the TT and all of those PC games...and to be honest, i don´t even know WHAT a supermech really is xD
Vehicles/ Aircraft? Not playercontrolled,no... i could imagine a commanderskill like "Airsupport" or a bunch of tanks to support for a short time, but even that could be a gamebreaker...

Thought they should limit to mechs only adding aircraft or something else my cause balance issues.

I am not a zealot when it comes to battlemech and unlike most of battlemech univers fans I don't feel strongly about the cannon but:
I could understand the sentiment of adding new mechs just for the kicks if this was a game called "Combat Walker Vehicles: Online" with no prior established history. However this game is called Mechwarrior: Online, its setting is battletech universe with an already existing canon.
Besides that, the battletech universe certainly does not suffer from the lack of mech designs: From quad-legged , melee combat oriented to LAM (capable of transforming between Battlemech and Aerospace forms) you got hundreds of designs in any conceivable form and shape. Devs really have no need to reinvent the wheel in this game...

The second question is a bit fuzzy. Because technically a biped has multiple legs. And I'd also include quadrupeds in the "standard" cathegory, although one might say that the standard design is two legs, because they are not that different from "normal" mechs.
Regarding the third question the game is called MechWarrior. So we should be mech warriors ;P. Tanks don't offer that much apart from problems with terrain and 360° turrets. Aerospace fighters open too much of a can of worms in terms of balance.

But if they do, they should use mine

Except that it actually will hurt. There are already so many canon mechs that there's no chance they will ever be able to get them all in the game. If they spend time trying to delvelop their own entirely new designs from scratch, that's time they won't be spending on the rest of the game.
In addition, why would they even want to? As already noted, this is Mechwarrior online, not just a generic fighting robot game. And they've deliberately chosen a time period with a very well established history, rather than just picking things up from where the lore so far has got up to. What would be the point in developing something based on an existing product if you're just going to make up your own stuff anyway?

Umm... lets see... if the game is around for a decade or so I would figure they would run out of designs... anyhow, one thing about the devs makeing a mech or two is that they can be iconic to the cannon of this parallel universe to BT which is MWO. As it is not strictly following cannon, iconic mechs for the game could be made, and I would have no problem with them doing so so long as they are balanced with all other mechs and aren't using something nutty like an energy shield or something.
One other thing; multi-legged mechs AKA quads are fully cannon... why is the OP listing it more or less otherwise?

As for extreme mechs: Well i don't like the additional weight classes, but they should add a few quad mechs. A few mind you.
What about vehicles and flying stuff? No.

No, the game is called mechwarrior online and not battletech online, this it is about battlemechs.

except for the fact that it probably already exists in battletech somewhere already.
skip the extra designs and just get the stuff in the game thats already designed, with the sheer number of mechs that are abounds, they won't be running out of ideas any time soon.
quads can be something for later, but i wouldn't put too much emphasis on it just yet.
Elementals i WOULD like to see however, but thats a little ways off yet (clans have gotta invade first)
and if they wanted to, proto-mechs, but again, not high on the to-do list
i don't see how aerospace would be unbalanced, sure they hit HARD, and fly FAST, but they're damn glass cannons, a single good hit and they're down. i think that in itself is enough of a balance...

As others have said in this thread, don't need PGI making up new mechs, there are plenty of cannon mechs to release.

Mechwarrior should also have class accord to rank like Bf3 did support, assault and skill base on that including tank or aerospace pilot.
To keep things interesting they should do event every now and then relating to story and timeline should be able to change down the line to keep progession and keep us on edge.
