Hey

Will it be possible to have multiple mechs of the same type?

I assume we will probably be able to have different mechs of different VARIANTS. But will if I so choose be able to have:

2 x Centurion CN9-AL?

One fitted out as a close in combat mech and the other as a ranged support mech?

The added bonus would be that When one mech dies in a match I would then be able to jump into my reserve Centurion and join another match.

This raising issues though ... what about XP ... would each mech have its own XP? or would I get XP for the Centurion chassis as one pool?

I know in WoT they don't allow this. you have one T49 tank and that's it. (love that tank :) ) The problem here is that the WoT system forces me to buy other mechs ... chassis that I don't like as much. with play styles I don't like as much.

(I really would play my T49 in every battle if I could.)

Is this a moot point though ... will our mech be 'locked' while the battle continues? Ie Your mech is sadly knocked out ... the battle continues to rage on... You leave battle ... and ... can you join another battle with the same mech or is it locked until the end of the battle? (ala WoT)

If it DOESN'T lock then this is not a problem ... you simply exit the battle ... repair ... refit ... and join a new battle. Does this create other issues?

So thoughts people?

It's not clear if you would ever need multiple of one variant- There is nothing yet to indicate you will ever need to wait between matches, and if you wanted different loadouts, there is nothing to yet indicate changing the loadout would cost you anything.

It was mentioned somewhere that the mech efficiencies apply to any mech of the same chassis, if you sold your JR7-D and then bought another your XP would still apply [citation needed]

I get the feeling that mechs are "locked" into a match until it ends. Mech XP is tied to each individual chassis. If you want 2 versions of a Centurion then you are better off buying a variant and customising it to your requirements as you need to "level up" the variants as well as the base chassis to progress through the trees past the first level.

I would hope they would let you save multiple oadouts in the mechlab and select one during the prematch phase.

The good and bad thing about variants is that they will have radically different hardpoints. Making it potentially impossible to fit it how you want.

My only concern is if they only have 12-16 mechs at launch.

If we have all the mechs from all the source books ... then this issue really does go away. There will be soooo many mechs We will all have lots.

But with only 3-4 mediums ... and 1 hugly (Hunchback) and the other armless ... therefore HUGLY the aesthetics of it all become limiting.

If you look at the pictures of mech lab, you can clearly see that there are multiple Atlases and Hunchbacks.

So we will probably be able to buy more of the same, Woodstock.

Unfortunately that pic may be misleading- Those could be two different Hunchback variants (base Hunchback and a Swayback) but they share the same preview icon. Note that the Catapult that is selected is a K2 but the preview icon in the bottom tray shows a regular Catapult.

They just need a loadout save function like saving a fitting in EVEOnline

Agreed that could simply be multiple variants.

As for saving configurations ... that wont help if the mech itself is LOCKED until the end of the battle and you died to a GAUSS to the head in the first minute of the game ... which then runs for 20 minutes.

I don't think there will be any lock-outs since so many new players will only have one mech for a long time, and those same new players will lose more than average. Too much downtime, when you want those people playing, having fun, and then buying stuff :)

Where do you get the ... people will only have one mech for such a long time from?

We don't really have any idea about progression and XP and the cost of mechs etc

We have zero information on how quickly you will earn C-bills and mechs.

However, earning a new mech must logically take long enough that purchasing one with cash becomes an attractive alternative.

You won't be buying a new mech every day.

I'm running on a groggy brain, but I'm going to recap things that I'm *almost* 100% sure of from the Dev Blogs & Interviews. With this being said, I'm not going to be citing anything directly.

Multiple 'Mechs is probably the most elusive point of discussion. It seems that the Devs' idea about leveling up is kind of split by chassis and components. What I mean is that, it sounds like you will be able to level up a general Chassis (i.e. a Jenner), as well as advancing it's components levels... Think of it like Battlefield 3, where you can level up your class, but you can also level up your specific guns to unlock more gun-specific attachments. In this case, you'd level up your 'Mech, as well as level up the components attached in order to unlock different things for it.

My understanding is that you could potentially own multiple 'Mechs (which may save from the aforementioned 'map lock out' that people have talked about briefly on this thread). But at the same time, you might only have to have one 'Mech, and instead have purchased different variants of that. I don't know if that would mean you physically have different 'Mechs or if you have a single chassis and in the builder you simply pick your variant in a list, which in turn modifies your hardpoints.

I guess in the end, I really haven't answered any questions, but at least I've worked some things out in my head. At least I've tossed in my two cents.

Unless it is changed, the Persistent game type will lock you in for the duration, you get to be a Spectator. Dropship mode provides you 4 Mechs to drop and when they are all dead, you gain earnings based on performance and can go again immediately (quasi speculative)

Mech garage = unlimited (method to fill is unknown (assume C-Bill or RLC purchases)

Base Chassis + 3 Variants required to attain Elite status on said Chassis. Player gains C-Bills & XP, Mech also gains XP which is converted to Modules for upgrades.

Cost of a Mech has been set @ $60.00 (Founders assumed to get best possible price point) :)

my pointless assumptions to follow:

you should be able to have multiple chasis of the same mech, each of them loaded out as you see fit, if thats what you choose to do.
XP would be earned for each chasis. running loadout #1 and #2 in battles is still the same mech, so logically, same XP pool for upgrading that (those) chasis

again, just assumptions. in WoT (using as comparison in only a business model aspect), you have literally hundreds of tanks/upgrades to go through. Thus far here we've got what? 12 chasis to work with. Even by the time The Clans invade, with upgrades/patches there'll we 20? Itd be silly on Piranna's part to have them be so easy to earn that we'd all have every chasis fully upgraded/loaded out in that time. They're here to make money, the longer they can keep us 'grinding' the more money they make. I'd imagine that even the upgrades to mechs will be costly relatively speaking anyway.

remember from the mechlab video posted, they were able to 'name' that mech (i think he choose "forumpostkiller" or somesuch thing). Why would they add THAT functionality if you didnt need to differentiate quickly between loadouts??

at anyrate, my 2 C-bills based purely on assumptions.

17 days till founder's package and still enjoying my PENDING status in the beta lol. enjoy the game gents, i surely do enjoy reading the forum posts.

You will probably be locked out until the end of the battle. I believe I read that the awards will be handed out at the end of the battle so you have to wait for it to be over to get any exp or Cbills.
