Spoiler Alert!!!!!

Spoilers below--stop reading now if you do not wish to know what happens, I am not giving away details in public but a very general description, however if you plan on reading 3145 and don't want spoilers then you should stop reading this topic.

Not sure if anyone here has read it, but Era Report 3145 I am sure many here will be happy to know the Davions get put down like dogs, losing dozens and dozens of worlds and gaining almost none at all. In fact Capellan Death Commandos kidnap a popular Davion ruler and behead her in public, while Davion's engage in a losing two front war. PM me if you want details, but Davion gets owned really bad. It is a glorious Era for the Confederation and utter humiliation for the Davion aggressors.

Brings a joyous tear to my eye...and yet they are left with some planets, so they must continue to be assaulted until they no longer befoul the stars with their sickly yellow flags.

So, I have to say, so far there are more than a few things that come up in this book that make me scratch my head. Lots of deus ex machina. I feel like some of this could have been better thought out, or the excuses could have been a bit stronger... oh well...

You are not allone.
With all those things happen...
It looks like every ear trie to cause more and more havoc as the eras before.
Clan Invasion was bad...but the FedCom Civil War was much worser...that was reduced to a brush fire by the WoB Jihad...and now that chaous in the Era 3145.... i believe the next step... is that on terra there will be man born - that have to be called god emporer.... and from the peripherie a strange float of green savage beasts core the Inner Sphere...

Nooooo..... no no no no.... I honestly like the concept of the Fortress Republic, and nothing that has been done is that "extreme" but the execution and motivation could be better. What bothers me most is that all these massive movements are happening with no regard for overextention: like, you only have so many troops, is it REALLY tenable to expand so rapidly?

FWL is semi-reborn with it's center of power in Oriente. The Regulan Fifes (need a better name) and Duchy of Andurien both remain independent realms. The league is much smaller than it once was, with large swaths occupied by neighboring powers. I'm not sure if you were aware, but following the Jihad (by 3085) the FWL had been utterly dismembered and no longer existed, so this is actually a huge improvement for the realm. The show is still run by a Marik, though not the kind you might expect...

Anyway, my last thought is this: By 3145 it's about time that "IS tech" and "Clan Tech" bases disappeared: The clans (even the ones in the homeworlds) are no longer really in a position to develop more advanced technologies, and the IS has had more than enough time to catch up and develop new technologies (ED: READ: copy clan technologies): It took about 25 years from the discovery of the Helm Memory Core to the widespread production of technologies like ER Large Lasers, Pulse Lasers, streaks, etc. As of the writing of this book, it had been nearly 100 years since the arrival of the clans and with many clans existing purely in the IS (esp. after the Wars of Reaving) it is high time to move past those differences in technology.

Yes, I knew Marik got completely wiped out at one point. So just the fact that the FWL has been reborn and exists AT ALL is a good thing, in my book. A friend of mine showed me the map of the 3145 Inner Sphere and it seems like even House Liao holds more territory than the current FWL does. But then, looking at the rest of the map, I think most of the Great Houses lost some ground - especially Steiner! Only exceptions are Liao and Kurita.

Also, what did you mean the show is being run by a Marik I'm not expecting? Can't be any worse than the last jerkoff we had.

You're doing quite well. Altough, that is mostly relative to what you became after the Jihad.

2 nations' leaders married and set a new captain-general. So you're slowly getting back on track.

Altough the newcommers north of you may be a bit of a problem.

I mean that she's not of House Marik's line, but is Thomas Marik's kid: not the real Thomas Marik, but Comstar's body double. So though she uses the Marik name, Jessica Marik is strictly not a "proper" Marik.

This is what I posted on our site:

Quote

So, I downloaded the 3145 era report for Battletech, and can I say ... WOW!

I'm on the fence as to whether this is a good, freekin' amazing type of WOW, or an "are you effing kidding me" type of WOW.

Either way ... WOW!

The important news for all Capellans:

The Federated Suns is getting its *** handed to it. HA HA!
  • The Draconis Combine has taken over Robinson and has started to cut a swath toward New Avalon. (See the map below.)
  • The Capellan Confederation has taken New Syrtis, and beheaded Amanda Hassek on New Syrtis for crimes against the Confederation and the Chancellor.
  • Caleb Davion is dead, and Jullian Davion is enroute to New Avalon to take the throne. The only hitch is that he has to travel through Capellan space - with Clan Sea Cucumber escorts.
The Lyran Alliance, no Commonwealth, no Alliance, screw it it ... House Steiner is on the brink of collapse.
  • Clan Yapping Puppy Dog took exception to the way they were being treated by Melissa Steiner as 'partners' in a war against the remnants of the Free Worlds League, and decided to form the Mangy Mutt Empire Wolf Empire carved from conquered FWL and Commonwealth space.
  • Clan Space Chicken, under some ***** given the title "Chinggis Khan" by clan Wyld Stallions, decided to go on a PMS trip and knock on Tharkad's door. Only an attempted assassination attempt on her life put a halt to this. (It was hard to keep raging while in a coma.)
  • In the fray the Kell Hounds are decimated, but still able to fight beyond their means.
  • Trillian Steiner is kind of in charge ... sort of ... maybe ... after she ousted Melissa Steiner. No, not the cool Melissa Steiner of 3025-3050 era, that would just be weird.
The Draconis Combine is standing strong, but ...
  • They reconciled with Wolf's Dragoons, and used them as the main thrust in the FedSuns invasion.
  • All heirs of Hohiro Kurita have been killed, and the ******* grand daughter of Theodore Kurita, Yori Kurita, is the now the Coordinator - though most think/know that Gunji no Kanrei Matsuhari Toranaga is really running the show.
  • The attack against the FedSuns did have a short hiccup when Yori and crew had to put down Clan Spaced Kitty - permanently.
The Free Worlds League is ... does anyone ever know what the hell is going on with them?
  • The Free Worlds League is back, sans Regulus and Andurien. What!?!? Regulus and Andurien not seeing eye-to-eye with the Mariks? You LIE!
  • Jessica Marik, daughter of Thomas Marik Halas is the Captain-General of the reborn Free Worlds League.
  • Whatever, they are purple ... 'nuff said.
The Capellan Confederation - Green is Good!
  • Daoshen Liao isn't nearly as cool as Sun Tzu, but I think that makes him cooler.
    • He has the nuttiness of Maximilian and Romano, but enough of the wily cunning of SunTzu to be a true and successful Liao.
    • I was never sure if I'd like the character known as Daoshen Liao, but now I'm sold. I like him.
  • CHESTERTON IS BACK! Not just the Commonality, but the actual system. It only took ~800 years. Oh, yeah, we got Tikonov, too.
  • Strangely little was said about the Trinity Alliance. Yeah, we know they are still allied with Canopus, for obvious reasons, but I didn't read boo about the Taurians - other than their interal woes.
ComStar
  • Can't make money when comms are down, so they are going broke.
    • Oh, the irony if they are forced into vows of poverty ... and silence.
  • In the mean time they (say) they are trying to fix the problems causing the 80% HPG blackout.
  • Word of Blake ideals may be resurfacing.
Rebublic of the Sphere
  • They took their ball and went home (to Prefecture X). Then they locked the door, put out the guard dog, and turned on the electric fence.
  • Fortress Republic they call it. Two men enter one man leaves! No, wait ... no one can enter or leave. All who try die quite horribly. The crew of one vessel that tried was molecularity fused with the hull of the ship. Yummy!
  • The outer prefectures were gobbled up by other factions.
Taurian Concordat
  • Just think of the Taurian Concordat and the Calderon Protectorate as North and South Korea. Interesting, Battletech has NEVER tried to use historical alagories before.
Magastry of Canopus
  • Aka: Capellan Confederation Lite. This is the Las Vegas, or Thailand, or maybe even Hong Kong of the Confederation. This is where I'd go to blow off steam - "What happens on Conopus stays on Conopus."
Clan Spaced Kitty (Nova Cat)
  • Wiped out.
  • Kinda sad, this was one of the only clans I actually liked.
  • Some Spirit Cats, who refuled the call to turn on the Draconis Combine, are in Marik space chilling with their Peyote. As part of the Clan Protectorate, the conclave of Spirit Cats and Sea Foxes are given a voice in the newly formed Free Worlds League.
Clan Rasalhague (Ghost Bears and the Sweedenese people)
  • Pretty much quiet except for: They even closed their border to Nova Cat refugees from the failed rebellion against the Combine; a Cluster which tried to escape to Rubigen was swiftly and completely destroyed by the Bears without mercy.
Clan Sea Cucumber (Sea Fox)
  • For the promise of a couple of worlds, they are escorting Jullian Davion to New Avalon.
  • Who cares?
Clan Yapping Puppy (Wolf)
  • Alaric Wolf is the son of Katherine Steiner. Who didn't see that one coming? He's made a minor play for the Archonship of the Lyran Commonalliancewealth.
  • Forged an empire, the Wolf Empire, from captured FWL and LC planets.
Clan Space Chicken (Jade Falcon)
  • Is proof of what happens when women rule the world, and she's not the cute one of the sisterhood.
Clan E.A.Poe (Snow Raven)
  • Now controls all of (former) Outworlds Alliance space. I'm horribly shocked that a Clan would have the gall, audacity, and capability to take over a group of pacifists and farmers. How could they have achieved this?
Clan Wyld Stallions (Hell's Horses) - really, you don't know the Bill & Ted's reference?
  • They back the crazy woman from Jade Falcon until they realized just how psycho she is. Now they are trying to whistle nonchalantly as they meander back to their worlds.
So, what do I think about all of this?

Quite simply, there are too many damn curves on the Inner Sphere map.

I don't get off on a bazillion factions - (I was happy with 5 horrible stereotypes and some periphery yocals) - so this is all pointless tripe to me; unless it eventually ends everything and anything to do with the Clans. Other than that, it was an interesting read, if for no other reasons than CapCon expands, FedSuns is in trouble, and I now like Daoshen Liao. He's my new-era Maximilian.

Post updated because some folk didn't understand my references.

Look at that MASSIVE Capellan pocket to new Syrtis: tell me that isn't going to be a problem later.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the update  Though, I don't understand why feudal bloodlines should make any real difference to people from a (supposed) space democracy. I'm personally just happy that SOMEBODY, ANYBODY has the clout and audacity to get the purple bird flying again. I don't care what her last name is or who her daddy was.

Er, what was her name? Is it Isis?

Jessica. ED: Isis was Thomas Marik's actual (illegitimate) daughter. It's all very complex :P

haha davions, look who has the plot armor now.

also at a side note, i am not sure how they are going to have steiner survive this one, especially since they are going to end up losing hesperus at this rate.
