So... I'm here to ask a question and hopefully not get too flamed. Maybe to get a solid answer with facts, not just assumptions.
My question is this; Is there any -actual- proof that we'll be allowed to choose to be a part of a clan when the clans arrive, or is everyone just assuming we'll be allowed to join one?
From what I can see, the game is going to be (pardon the comparison, I know it's old) like WoT, in that two teams fight each other with various mechs they've fine tuned and purchased and whatnot with in game c-bills and cash moneys.
How exactly will the different factions (IS factions and Clan factions) be represented on the field? Will rival factions of the IS actually fight together against the Clanners? Will Clanners end up pitted with Steiners to fight some random Jade Falcons and Davions on the other side?
I could see this all ending poorly if in the end they're like "Welp! You're all going to be a bunch of random mercs working for whoever you get roped into working for at the time you hit the Battle button."
(Don't get me wrong, I'm cool being a mercenary. I could just see a bunch of nerds freaking out about this.)
A question about the clans in MW:O

I think most people are assuming that the Clans will be a playable faction in that as the Clans are as an integral part of the BT universe as the Great Houses are why wouldn't they be a playable faction as well? But no from what I've read there currently is no offical announcement from the devs one way or the other about the presence of the Clans.
The tender issue of balancing Clan tech and wether or not to enforce Zellbrigen are both problems that have to be ironed out if Clans will be playable factions however.

There is a screen in our accounts for selecting our allegience. That says it all for me. They probably want to get an early idea of the numbers that will signup for each clan or just get us thinking about it now so we are prepared later.
Guilds will have to pledge their allegience too a clan no doubt.
If players can go all lone wolf it may simply mean that they do not effect a clans persistence related status. It does not mean they can't play with friends. That is how I see things so far.
They can't make people join guilds/Merc Corps so it would be very cool if there is truly a lone wolf option for their actual allegience. It would suggest a very dynamic game. Look at STO for example, 2 factions, very restricted, not even a merc or civilian type option. That is all wrong for an mmo made in the last few years. in my opinion and hopefully MW:O is all right.

I agree with you there, GHQCommander. I think I like the idea of having multiple factions to pick from and various bonuses or advantages to each faction. But since ALL of the houses argue and fight and yeah sometimes work together, and last I checked it's about the same for the Clanners, what do they do as far as actual functioning fights? Do they split it all up based on traditional alliances between factions in the Inner Sphere and the Clanners and then again when Clanners and Inner Sphere fight together?
Personally I think they should make it so you're some kind of Merc or Inner Sphere and just introduce the Clanner tech as it hits the field as a sort of epic cookie to purchase if you have the funds(I mean C-bills, even I'd be annoyed if all clanner stuff always cost cash...). Or just let everyone pledge to a house they want to work for to gain boons from them? That'd be simple and make sense.
Course I have no -real- say here, just speaking my mind and hoping I don't get beat up for it. xD
