Here's what usually happens.

Person posts about the existence of Game B in a forum about Game A. Fans of Game A feel threatened by a game that has something in common with Game A, and find every reason to denounce Game B. Flamewars ensue.

Victims: Fans of the Genre who would play both games regardless.

So far here it's been either "I plan to play both, the more mecha the better" or "It looks alright for what it is,but it's not my cup of tea"

Hopefully it'll stay that way.

My on opinion of hawken is it looks alright but I think it'll end up being free to play, play to win. I might still check it out when it goes live, last I heard it was still in beta.

ie, people who have no taste and play whatever is doled out at them. they're victims of their own making.

They had to make a game that was easy to play for all of the Call of Duty kids.

I have heard very little about hawken, but what it looks like to me is some mecha or battletech fans really liked the Mechwarrior idea, but wanted to make their own intellectual property (which is cheaper, and easy) and keep it faster speed (so basically only using light mechs.) So its mechs mixed with a fallout/post apocalyptic environment.

I dont love the look of the mecha (which is the real term for all this genre) but the action looks entertaining. As someone said earlier, it is good to see mecha on this side of the pond coming back into style.

And before anyone starts tossing accusations of "OMG COPY!" please realize even the original battletech was just a ripoff of Japanese manga/anime, and that is no bad thing. "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery" Is what a man once said...

Lots of opinions here so i will give mine.

Hawken: is a fast paced shooter game like COD, Quake, and so forth. These games have there place but are not everyone's choice in game play. But are a much better style game for someone who logs on for a few minutes here or there but no long game sittings.

Xteel: was a great game. I miss it as well. Use to play mid guard on flag matchs and range on death matchs. Although it was more on the lines of a game like hawken them MWO. It was a twitch game not a sim.

MWO: Sim based game. This means it moves slower but each action you take is going to have more of a effect on the outcome of the match. I can see 1 big problem with this, people that do not develop at least average skill fast will probably not stick with the game. I say this as a skill based game is hard for people that only can play in the twitch game mentality of games like COD, quake and such. But then people that think while they play will be much more likely to make it a long term game where it can grow around them.

Hawken's indie, so I'll most likely play it because I like to support dedicated groups of people like that. I mean, they have a team of less than a dozen people, for crying out loud, they need some love! But will I get into it as much as MWO? Not likely. Those super-speedy mechs, just make me dizzy for some reason, I mean at least scout 'Mechs have to TURN...

So, cheers to the Hawken devs for their hard work, its not your fault that we're not into this type of game, good luck anyway!

You quoted 2 comments, you didn't do anything there. Congrats

Also if you're attempting to imply my being "threatened" by Hawken's existence, then you're sorely mistaken. I heard about Hawken long before MW:O and I considered playing it however its a long way off from release. I see Hawken as a good game but lacking the character that the Battletech universe has. It looks like a shooting game with giant robots and no story, rather arcade driven than based off of a rich and interesting story with giant mechs and killing.

So thank you for the fail sir.

Hawken isn't based off of any story? I'm sure there is a story there.

I do find it funny when people use BattleTech as a way to denounce Hawken though. MWO has changed quite a bit from the TRO.

Not looking to start up that discussion though ;)

I've been following Hawken quite a while now and it looks intresting project so far.
All I wish from it is that I can customize my own rust bucket the way I like, just like in Mechwarrior.

I knew about Hawken way before I knew the existence of Mechwarrior online.

I intend to at least try Hawken to see what its like (I have a slight weakness for steampunk), I'll probably stick with MWO more. The more mechs the better is what I say.

It's more of a typical fps with very fast paced action than actual tactical shooter. Think of it as shooter with mechs instead of humans.

It reminds me too much of a FPS MechAssault... or Armored Core without the crazy customization. It doesn't look bad (it looks quite pretty actually), but everything I've seen doesn't really excite me all that much.

Hawken reminds me of a modern Virtual On. I'm looking forward to both games tremendously.

Although Battletech will be forever my love, and Hawken just a tramp that visits once and a while until I'm done with it.

Hawken is one of 5 new mech games that will come out in 2012-2013 so we should have plenty of great mech action.Hawken reminds me of playing Mechwarrior3 with updated graphics and sound. I don't believe hawken has the same type of Mechlab per say but i will play it anyways just because it is a Mecha Game.

I respect these guys. They announced the game way before MW:O and are a independent studio with something like seven people. In one of their older interviews they even explicitly state that their game is not a Mechwarrior like simulator and you won't be configuring heatsinks or linking weapons.
