Hawken's indie, so I'll most likely play it because I like to support dedicated groups of people like that. I mean, they have a team of less than a dozen people, for crying out loud, they need some love!

They have $1 million in funds, a rich publisher and a movie in making.

Where is that "indie" part?

They are an Indie developer 'officially'.

Also, you'd be surprised how fast anyone can eat through 1 million in game development. Not saying they will, but compared to what goes into most AAA titles, 1 million isn't a lot of money.

So, while there is some truth to what you're saying, I would still call Hawken 'Indie' seeing as they're a tiny team trying to accomplish more with less...

Hawken reminds me of a modern Virtual On. I'm looking forward to both games tremendously.

Although Battletech will be forever my love, and Hawken just a tramp that visits once and a while until I'm done with it.

A THOUSAND TIMES YES VIRTUAL ON! I remember trouncing every other kid in the arcade at that game... *puts away rose tinted glasses*

I hate to say it, but Hawken seems far superior to me. I really like the battletech universe though and will keep on playing it unless something really bad happens. It is significantly different gameplay. Mechwarrior is more Sim but man Hawken do look sweet!

1 Million is nothing compared to other game budgets. Also the dev team is a total of 8 dudes. Thats pretty amazing if you ask me.

It might keep kids and amateurs out of MWO... but I have to admit, it does look good. Maybe little too fast.

The city they have... ***? doesn't seem natural for urban setting in future or not. It's like ungoverned city in China or something.

Both games look awesome to me ! And I think they actually can cmplement each other quite nicely :

- MWO : Strategic and tactic battles, you need to think, to adapt, to communicate...But if your teammates are ****** it can be pretty frustrating

- Hawken : Fast-paced revenge on the noobs player, niark niark niark *evil look*. When you need that tension away from playing too much intense psychological battles on MWO.

Yep, I think that'll be how I'll rool ^^

One million is almost nothing when it comes to making a game or a film.

it does look like what CoD developpers would have done with the Mech franchise....... it might indeed detract some players from MWO because the gameplay is much faster and, sorry for the term, "modern". It seems overly simplified with the choice of only 2 weapons per loadout, but I gotta say, the sound effects are pretty sweet. Those explosions sound awesome, felt like in a movie.

Footage in the OP leaves me less impressed than the earlier footage I had seen. Just confirms the fact that Hawken is not the game for me.

I have been watching Hawken, and it looks fun, but not something I will excel at. I am a Strategy, RTS type, guy. Twitch games are fun, but I get creamed by people who have developed the skills to snipe me from half a kilometer while twirling in the air. I usually prefer a game where I can win by positioning, patience and teamwork. But that doesn't mean I won't go get my buttocks handed to me in Hawken a few times a day.

I was watching E3 waiting for and MWO update.
Instead I saw this; another mech game !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a response to MWO?
Will it be a good game?
I did realize that the changing weapons has a visual effect...

What are your opinions?!

Ive been following it for a while, its visually nice, I kinda like the Japanese anime look and design of everything. That said its not an MMO and it obviously doesnt carry the history and expansive universe that battletech/mechwarrior does.

Looks good, I think having a game like this in the market will be good for MWO, all the run 'n gun players will probbly prefer that so we get better quality(well at least more suited) players in MWO.

If its FTP ill probbly try it, but i dont think id buy that game.

It looks interesting. I am all in favor of variety. MW, MC, Shogo, HG, RT:BC, Exteel, AC were all fun - for different reasons.

And, of course, the more mecha and/or sci-fi games the better.

If Hawken is anything like armored core than I am not interested. I want the simulator, not the shooter.

Armored Core was Sim till it hit other consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PS3 now its just a big steaming pile of poo! PS2 ones are Sim with a hint of arcade shooting.

I'm also looking forward to Hawken, but not as much as I'm looking forward to future Mechwarrior/Battletech titles.
Also, Hawken seem to be 'too fast' as far as my taste in mecha goes, but it still looks quite good. :)
And, yes, I agree w/ the sentiment that "the more mecha and/or sci-fi games, the better."
(it's actually a good time to be a mech AND cyberpunk fan now: Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Online, CDPR's Cyberpunk, the recently announced 'Watch Dogs', Hawken, MWO, etc.)

And there's going to be a movie? Huh. Interesting. Any chance we'll see a Battletech movie/mini-series (ala Game of Thrones)? 4th Succession War, perhaps?

Hawken was announced some time ago, and I must say I was interested in it... until I actually saw the first gameplay trailer. Just another Call Of Duty. The fact that your piloting a giant mech doesn't make any difference. No way it'll be better than MW:O, though some CoD fanboys will probably play it.
