Most likely a speedy medium for those more interesting scout jobs

Heavy-medium. Fast enough to get in, fast enough to get out. Unless they put a Battlemaster in game, I don't see myself breaking the 80 ton limit. Cause after that, the mechs move like grandparents....Yes, Yes. Armor good, but speed better.
One of the reasons that the clans obliterated the Inner Sphere, is because a 75 ton mech was able to run down just about everything on the battlefield. Scary....

I prefer support mechs, be they an assault or a light.

Ditto the Omnimech. First one wasn't till 3052 for the Inner Sphere, the Kuritan Raptor. Most don't show till 3058- again, you got a long wait for stuff like the Owens.

Which is why I said wish. I realize that the mech won't be out for another 9 years or so according to the game dates. It's just my favorite mech is all.

My guess is that Assault mechs will be too slow to have control over the battle. This game from what I have seen is shaping up to be a team game, and if you can't move with your team you will find yourself surrounded by the enemy team. Assaults are only real good as a fallback point or a spearhead when backed up by others. In either case, you need to communicate well with your lancemates.

Two things I want to try:

A high speed medium mech armed to the teeth with short range lasers to light up heavies etc. when they aren't prepared. An ambush mech if you will.

A long ranged heavy with PPCs or LRMs to act as fire support. e.g. Catapult.

We'll see how the c-bills work out and what will be available at launch.

I probably won't pilot a medium, and I suspect I'll likely be piloting heavies or lights more so than assaults.

I really don't like the Assaults thus far in the game. I'm probably more likely to pilot mediums and light for now, and when other designs make it in I might go with a heavy.

I intended to go with Light/Mediums for the most part. Much prefer avoiding shots than absorbing them all.
Would love to get an Uller with NARC beacon.

I prefer the Medium to Heavy weight classes. My Favorite Inner Sphere Med/heavy were the Hatchetman (Med) and the Marauder.

And my Favorite Clan Med/Heavy were the Nova (Blackhawk) and the Timberwolf (Madcat, Configuration D)

I'm getting the feeling that this game has a lot of similarities to World of Tanks, where players are introduced with a small amount of cash and a light mech as their first platform. Reading about the experience system (again, similar to WoT), players will go through tech trees to get access to higher tier (heavier) mechs, ending with the most expensive and largest mechs. So while I dont argue that people will like to pilot the light, medium, and heavy mechs, I feel that people will be pushed to drive assaults. WoT has been around for a long while though, and has done a good job at making high-tier lighter tanks to fill more advanced scouting roles or quick strikers. Hopefully the skill mods will replicate the same feel.

In the past, while assault mechs could carry a lot of guns, they were by no means the easiest to pilot. They tended to be deadly in the hands of expert pilots, but when some new pilot tried to go with the "I want to drive the biggest thing!" plan, they would tend to die within seconds.

This is how to explain the entire Lyran armed strategy in a paragraph, by the way. :)

Its allot of fun to zip around marking targets and nipping at legs. All those assault mechs crippled before my fellow meds/heavies can finish it off. Magical feeling.

I will have to wait to see what is avaiable when the game releases. but a Heavy or a Medium will likly be my most used. I am still holding out hope for a Thunderbolt and a Shadow Hawk...
