Hoping PGI will answer this, but I'd also like to see if this kind of thing interests anyone else and how you'd feel about it.

I like where your going with this idea...
Okay to be serious, not sure if I like the idea of a founders package as a gift, since I don't think being a Founder is a good way to intro new people to the franchise, but maybe an invite package, or a new members gift pack or something to fill this concept is a good idea.

*cough* If you feel like being generous.. I'm all here man, just sayin'
In all seriousness: I think for many people the suprise is more fun if they log in and see a message "You have new gifts waiting for you!" than people asking their bankaccount number, being sent 30 / 60 bucks and having to buy the object themselves.

But if we gift them the package and they play...they ARE founders and they're also new blood into the community/game. This is a good thing.
If they don't play for long, they at least tried it out AND helped support PGI. I know I've got a ton of friends I'd like to get veteran (a few elite) packs for and it'd be really nice if I could just buy one and have it sent to their account.

The Devs even created award badges to recognize those guys who help out other players by gifting.
I think it would be a great idea for MWO, to make it easy to send gifts of stuff from the store.

If they tie the game code key to the e-mail buying it then you will not be able to give it away to a friend.
It would be nice if the code key was independent of the e-mail buying it. <<<< DEV's HINT

I suggest the Devs make a visit to the Rise of Flight forums to get a feel for what happens with a tight knit community that has an easy system provided to gift game content to other players.
Devs are welcome to contact me via e-mail or PM for more details if they would like.

Yea, I think this kind of thing could be huge for PGI and the community both. It's a great idea because it still avoids making MW:O into pay to win, all we'd be doing is helping people get started.
Other packs like this or items being a gift would be great, I hope they really think about it and do it.
