I've just been thinking and i agree with the investment of planets that a merc unit can control but as a safe guard planets should not change hands or be initialy captured, but rather have to be won through a series of fights on the planets surface and incorperated with a system.

for example if the attackers can manage to protect their landing zone then they can expand over the planet to capture key objectives but it can work vice versa as well and the attackers could be out right repeled on their inital attack.

also both attackers and defenders should need to bring a certain set amount of ammo and supplies with them to the planet (or stockpiles if defending) and during the fight for the planet only be able to restock from these stockpiles (this could inclued parts for mechs such as weapons or replacement parts).

so essential there would be a map for the planet in which the leaders of the two opposing factions choose the best place to attack or to send their troops to a location on the map it would work almost like the chip system in World of tanks except much faster paced.

you would not lose units but the territory would be captured and the chips sent back to an adjacent territory. in order to limit how fast your opponet can move there could be a time till the troops reach a location and this would give the opposing team a chance to react and respond acordingly. in the end if the invaders lose all teritory they lose the fight for the planet and vice versa.

so essentially it would take multiple battles in order to capture a planet and the mercs leader of the unit would esentialy tell which units go to said territory and attemp to capture it.

(Note: the time limit constraint would be 5-10 min's to keep the action alive). anyway just wanted to post my thoughs and see what you guys think and please forgive and terriable grammar.

Seems like a good idea and similar things have been suggested in the past. It sees at the moment that the devs idea of a "Minimum Viable Product" on launch does not include such matters. i would hope that this is something that could be incorporated fairly soon after launch for those who want to have more of a metagame rather than just deathmatch. There have been no details available on what is planned apart from the initial announcements.
One thing to bear in mind is that this would favour the larger gaming groups with regard to Merc Corps who have players in all time zones. It would however be suitable for the factions as they will be made up of players from all over the world. In general planets will always "belong" to Houses, with merc corps perhaps having the "management" of particular border planets.

I like the idea of a sort of "frontlines" thing going on, capture places and complete objectives to increase your control over the planet. And maybe if no defending forces show up to stop you, then you could easily gain territory and take the planet much more quickly.

They've announced very few details on how planetary capture will work, from the large level, or merc corps controlling planets. From what I recall reading, for now it will be just 1 drop to determine the victor, but that it might get more complex down the line (I hope so, as for most people this could be one of the main attractions).

Nik i do agree with the fact that this may favor merc groups with more people or people in different time zones perhaps a safe guard could be put in place to prevent engagement on a planet that do not have enough people on at one time but this could also be exploted. hopefully the time between engagements on a planet could allow the force enough time for the group to launch a counter ofensive
