PS - I'm pretty sure there's not going to be any Robotech 'Mechs (i.e. Warhammer, Rifleman, Locust, Phoenix-Hawk, Wasp, Marauder, Battlemaster, etc.) due to copyright issues. They've already been removed from canon as well, unless there's been any new developments.
Trying to make do without my clan 'mechs like the SCAT and Vulture will be a pain, too. Hopefully they figure into MWO at some point
i think the hollander was 3055 ...but i'll cut you a deal, you can have one if i can, and we both chuck a gauss round at anyone who complains
for me it depends on the mission and terrain, in a city to be perfectly honest, i'd use infantry and tanks.
pheonix hawk (sorry griffin hatchetman and hunchback)
(i love the marauder, but at a push the warhammer wins for versatility toe to toe) so ... archer (and never understood why people like the grasshopper tbh)
awesome (anything that gets inside the min fire range gets a fist to the face next round)...because except for the LRM, the atlas is a 9 hex wonder, whereas 3 X PPC says "NO!" in any language

Medium : Crab (CRB-27)
Heavy : Flashman (FLS-8K)
Assault : Thug (THG-11E)
If you can't take the heat, start using autocannons I say!

PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk

Medium: Hunchback 4P(The one with all those Medium Lasers)
Heavy: Thunderbolt. Really, any Thunderbolt is good.
Assault: Stalker. Same here, most of them are just monsters.

Very common mechs but I love 'em.

Marauder or Caesar/Warhammer/Dragon

Have to say:
Medium has to be the best class with speed, outfit, weapon classing, and longevity in action. Highly outfitted we could usually out-maneuver and defeat heavy and assault units in tactics games. Only problem is you have to have some assaults to bull-dog through the fight sooner or later.

Stalker (Rocker variant)

Heavy: Guillotine / Warhammer
Assault: Mauler / Longbow

Light: Jenner - a good hit-and-run mech. Four grouped medium lasers are nothing to sniff at, and the SRM-4 adds a little more punch as long as it lasts.
Medium: Wyvern - a bit of interesting Lostech that has a fairly even weapons spread. At a distance, the large laser and LRM-10 provides a surprisingly powerful first strike for such a low-weight mech. Up close, replace the LRM-10 with an SRM-6 and a pair of small lasers. And let's not forget the 9.5 tons of armor and jump jets.
Heavy: Catapult - I needed a support mech, and the twin LRM-15's are about as good as it gets for this era in the Inner Sphere, especially for the price. I was sorely tempted to pick a Grasshopper, though; I love a good brawler.
Assault: Hatamoto-Chi/ Thug - both of these have a pair of PPC's and a pair of SRM-6's, making them reasonably priced and highly defensible anchors, useful on any battlefield. I might have to pick the Hatamoto-Chi though, if only for the odd, distinct design. Like the Jenner, this is a Draconis Combine original.
Note: I genuinely like these designs, and the overall cost just barely exceeds 20 million C-Bills.

Sucks that I can't include my fav Clan mechs, but, hey, I like these ones too. Sniping and kiting is what I do best. Much to the dismay of my opponents.

Medium: SHD-5M Shadow Hawk
Heavy: CRD-3R Crusader
Assault: AS7-K Atlas

1. Can only be from 3025-3050
2. NO CLAN MECHS - Only IS Mechs as the clans have not invaded yet.
3. Pick 1 Light, 1 Medium, 1 Heavy, 1 Assault
With in the limits defined you really don't have that many options. "Can only be from 3025-3050" throws out all of the old Age of War and Star League era mechs that the Great Houses and mercenary companies depended on in the Succession Wars.
Within the parameters though:
Shadow Hawk SHD-5M
2 X Cataphract CTF-2Xs
Now If you meant that the design had to have been pre-3050 and with no Lostech (Star League Era peak technology) aka level 1/Introductory technology then it changes.
With that adjustment:
Firebee FRB-2E (for scouting, if I had my gumption 2 of the Srms would be replaced with medium lasers or all 4 with a mix of medium lasers and flamers)
Vindicator VND-1R (generalist, use in role needed)
Cataphract CTF-2X (linemech)
Longbow LGB-7Q (fire support)
