What mech would you want to run?

My personal favorite is the Warhammer (Mjolnir), but if I have to use a smaller class I like the Panther, Centurion, Wolfhound, and Griffin.
I don't normally use assaults but if I did I would go with either the Battlemaster or the Zeus (a PPC variant like the ZEU-6T)

I've always been a fan of light and fast., but I was told by a unit member that may have to change. I guess "commanders" aren't supposed to go off "scouting" and "die."
An Archer, a Mauler, a Battlemaster, a Zeus, all would work I suppose. Though a Grasshopper would be better. Gotta have them jumps, it's my favorite DFA mech.

Or the 11-B, with the two gauss rifles.

While this is posted in the FRR Information part of this forum I will repost it here. The FRR did not have access to a whole lot to begin with. After the Clan invasions their selection grew through battle salvage and a sudden influx of technology from ComStar, but originally this is all the FRR had access too:

That is not even remotely a comprehensive list. A much better idea would be to go the the Master Unit List in the link below and set the filters to FRR and IS General along with whatever other filters you feel like setting.

Don't forget, we are all essentially mercs, regardless of what kinda "unit" some of you decide to roleplay as.
I'm quite convinced that players will have access to a larger market and thus, more mech types available for use. So unless the player adhere to his/her own strict personal "house" rules, its not hard to imagine that FRR-aligned mercs piloting Mechs that are not traditionally found in the FRR military.

Yeah that sarna list looked way too short for a whole nation's army.

While the Sarna list is not comprehensive, to say not even remotely so would be a mistake. Using the MUL and filtering for FRR along the appropriate timelines returns 28 hits vs Sarna's 21. Now, there are a variety of factors that make even that off, the most glaring being that Draconis Combine and Lyran mechs are relatively common in FRR space due to the time spent under their rule/at war with them, so any list really should include a subset of each sides forces. The Sarna list is a quick and easy listing of mechs that saw the most service in FRR forces.
That being said...I like the Battlemaster...but the Wolfhound is a standby favorite, more so if we get to melee.
