The only thing I can state for sure at this point is that from July 17th onward there will no longer be any data wiping.

I will be getting the founders package because I will be playing and I am fine with provide the company with abit of an additional warchest to plug into the game. Better to have a well polished game at release than something rushed out as a result of pressure from financial backers.

That said I am as anxious as anyone to play but I am wiling to wait if it means a stronger launch for the product.

I'm not in the habit of pre-ordering games, as in my experience release dates tend to shift.

I would like to get the founders pack though. Maybe I'll just make an exception for MWO.

well so far I've been throwing money at my PC daily trying to get this game since last October, when I heard of this game coming out, and nothing happened so far,...(back then summer 2012 seemed like so far away, now it's only a couple of months WOOT!) so I'm definitely gonna be buying the Founders pack,... Take my money already,.. I want to show my support. (and if the only thing I would get is the founders ribbon or whatever I'd Still buy it, everything else that's included is just cherry on top)

Given that there does not appear to be a time limit, at least until July 17th, to buy the founders' pack... I can't see why anyone with a brain would buy it prior to July 17th.

I mean, if nothing else, waiting at least gives you a chance that you'll get to experience the beta and see if the game is worth your money. But pre-purchasing the founders pack without even seeing how the game plays? Seems like an odd move.

And this seems kind of weird.. So, folks are buying a founders' pack, but then presumably at some point there's going to be an open beta or something? Russ mentioned that in a post yesterday.

But beyond July 17th's, there won't be any data wiping..... Which means that July 17th is, for all intents and purposes, just the release date. The idea of a "beta" beyond that point is nonsensical, especially given the F2P nature of the game... If they're not wiping the data after July 17th, then you're not playing a beta.. you're just playing the game.

I think the only way it makes the game better is if it convinces the publisher to polish the game more. However, it could also incentivize them to keep the date knowing money is around the corner, depending on their mindset.

Would you pay someone for not even half finished work?

While I kind of understand the notion of just paying to support the effort... at the same time, this is a professional product being made by professional software developers. It's not like it's a charity. They aren't homeless orphans from some Dickens novel.

They are offering some tangible benefits for purchasing the founders pack... the extra xp/cbill mech, some in game money, etc. Those are all justification for buying the founders' pack. Seems like a pretty good deal.

But I don't see why anyone would buy it sooner than the last possible moment it's offered, since doing so doesn't seem to actually grant any benefit.

And, as I said, Russ's statement yesterday about it entering "Open Beta" after July 17th doesn't make much sense if they aren't going to wipe it after that date, since then there's really nothing "beta" about it at that point.

If you don't pay for a Founder's Pack now, you can always support the game later on once it has proven itself to you via in-game store purchases. This is just one of those limited time deals and a way for PGI to say "Thanks for supporting us".
