I'm a fan of the storyline. And no, I don't necessarily mean the "Victor Steiner-Davion is the white knight, the Clans are basically the Klingons, and when he gets back his evil sister has taken everything, blah blah blah." I mean the story itself. Pick up just about any of the novels, and you get plenty of the giant robot action, but you also have military planning on a grand scale, spy drama with double agents, political intrigue, a love plot or two, and all in an over-arching story that multiple authors contribute to. In addition to that, you have a backdrop of hundreds of years, Four massive Succession Wars, not to mention the stuff with the Fall of the Star League. Plus the loss of technology, causing the strange-yet-believable state of tech that the 31st century is in.
Oh, and covering all of that, it's "hard" science-fiction, at least in my eyes. No teleportation, no matter-to-energy and back again, NO ALIENS (I haven't read that one book, so shush), no time-travel, no laser swords, no magic, no meta-physical crap. Truly, the only things the BT universe has that we can't produce on a smaller scale are FTL travel and communication. That's it. And even with that, they make it so only JumpShips can "jump," they require upwards of a week to recharge, and even at "pirate" jump points, it still takes days for the DropShips riding along to make it to the nearby planet.

Story line - besides the main plot written in the novels.
One of the richest sic-fi universe i know. You can easily make a plot - that look naturally - unlike W40k where everything is open - but any change is permitted.
Oh at least: Love it for The Skye Jaegers

It needs confirmation of course, but a friend of the father of cousin's friend's mother of the second degree cousin of my half sister from my father side said that there are like big robots in the game.
Il like those
.
(Seriously though, I like highly customizable RPGs, strategy and big robots with big guns that all have tousands of statistics !)

The rich and diverse storylines covering many cultures (including mercenaries), the technical aspects and power of a BattleMech, and the crazy battles my friends and I had playing the tabletop game.
