Hey guys, I thought I'd swing by here and share these exciting new updates. In the time since this interview was posted, an actual human being could have transitioned from concept to standalone release. Let's see how MechwarriorOnline was doing nearly a year ago.

First up, let's have a look at gameplay balance. As of November 2012, the long-range high-alpha metagame dominated by jump-sniping seen in other MechWarrior titles is a thing of the past, a distant memory we'll never have to worry about here.

What're the devs driving? Hunchbacks!
Posted Image

Expect some exciting, intense close-range fighting.
Posted Image

MW4 refugees rejoice: Jump-sniping is a thing of the past.
Posted Image

A variety of maps to encourage build diversity!
Posted Image

How do you capture the spirit of BattleTech? Russ Bullock and Bryan Ekman have you covered, MechWarrior. They understand that the transition from 30-year-old boardgame to modern combat sim requires finesse, not copying stats verbatim.
Posted Image

MechWarrior Online promises to have good depth, honestly.
Posted Image

Next, let's hear about exciting new gameplay modes. We've got deathmatch, what else can we look forward to? Some hot new game modes (expect these by the end of 2012), but that's not all. An exciting world-spanning Community Warfare, that's what! Look for it coming to you in February, 2013!

CS-style deathmatch is boring. Give us good news, Russ!
Posted Image

When can we expect these, anyway?
Posted Image

Wow! Community Warfare sounds great. When can we get a glimpse?
Posted Image

How about joining factions?
Posted Image

2013 is shaping up to be a year to remember for Mechwarriors!
Posted Image

MechWarrior is a complex beast, a combat simulator with a good array of controls to learn, and a lot of depth to its customization metagame plus an economy on top. Let's hear about the new user experience!

Off to a good start!
Posted Image

Trial Mechs aren't so bad; they're just being matched against experienced veterans, a new matchmaker will solve that by matching you against equally skilled pilots.
Posted Image

No worries about getting stomped by teams on voice comms.
Posted Image

How about integrated voice chat for the rest of us?
Posted Image

What about non-US players?
Posted Image

What other cool stuff is coming our way to get us in the MechWarrior mood? Get us excited, Piranha. We've been waiting ten years for this, blow us out of the water and make us feel like we're piloting huge war machines in an interstellar conflict!

Expansive pilot skills!
Posted Image

Carve out a place for your character!
Posted Image

Use experimental BattleTech equipment!
Posted Image

"Alien" invaders on the horizon!
Posted Image

MechWarrior Online is shaping up to be an incredible game that's managed to cast aside the gameplay baggage from MechWarrior 4, moves past that couple of more-recent games that shall not be named, and knows how to bring the BattleTech feeling to a modern mech sim without getting bogged down in decades-old rule-sets. I, for one, can't wait for the start of community warfare in early 2013 and know that a solid new player experience will continue to draw in players looking to make their mark on the ever-expanding conflict from inside the cockpit of a massive multi-story war machine.

It'd have been the game we all wanted, if those pesky goons hadn't started playing an even infiltrated PGI to ruin it like they did with EVE.

Maybe I should blame the Goons for RO2's downfall then too? Clearly the catastrophe that MWO became had to be an outside job....

He may have meant "olde", you see he's British and they have a fetish for unnecessary vowels.

Also, man that was a depressing read. Whatever happened to that MWO?

I can't possibly improve on the greatness of this thread.

But I can say that you new players who don't understand the BitterVet Rage, this is why.

I fully expect this thread to be gassed and end up in K-Town because "can't have our players shown being unhappy"

Well we can't on this forum, as the last few news articles re:MWO it's clear people (certainly not PGI ) know the player base is in an uproar.

I cannot believe they think/thought trial 'mechs are viable. If it doesn't have DHS, it's not viable. Period. He basically said, "L2P, noob," when, in fact, that poor son of a ***** will never have a chance running stock.

But hey, in exchange for CW, the meta working as intended, multiple game modes, C3, and an improved new player experience, we get the ability to see over hills, ghost heat, weird movement rules, and slightly less glitchy hit detection! Totally worth the investment of dev resources, right? Right?

It's like PGI got taken over by masochistic doppelgangers during the interim.

Now I remember why I bought this founder package. I have forgotten since February. I wonder if they meant 2014? Maybe their calendars were off in that day? Paul seems to be really bad at fixing these weapon damage numbers, maybe he set the calendars to 2013 that day by mistake?

Time will tell...

I was incredibly optimistic a year ago - communication was great, vision was wonderful. But so much that was promised that made me and others so enthusiastic about the game has yet to materialize. Hopefully PGI is able to return to that vision soon!
