I love the MISERY and it's been one of my favorite mechs for quite some time. So I thought I'd share a bit of an "evolutionary story" of how I've tweaked it as changes come to the game meta. Would love to hear your comments, or your own story.

Three months ago I had a STD305, AMS, 1AC5, ASRM6, 2LLas, 3MLas. I wasn't much of a "shooter" so I avoided PPCs even in the darkest days when poptarts and PPC Stalkers proliferated. I had decent success brawling with this puppy.

Two months ago I decided to force myself to be a shooter, so what better vehicle than a STD280, AMS, 1Gauss, 2ERPPC, 1PPC. Sometimes I switched the PPC/ERPPC ratio around depending on what the drop commander preferred (I was a replacement pilot for several RHOD-style matches). Unsurprisingly, KDR improved as my shooting skillz improved. Mission accomplished! On the side, I built several poptarts as I "joined the dark side".

When ER/PPC heat was increased, I changed it to STD300, AMS, 1Gauss, 2PPC, 3MLas. Runs quite hot, and I had to be disciplined about which weapons to use, but it was a good suppression mech and can beat most poptarts 1-on-1 (the only honorable way of fighting!).

Now with the Gauss change I decided I didn't like having the Gauss on the Misery as much since it is "terrain-challenged" and thus not so great for sniping. Without the Gauss, the PPCs ran damn hot. So I switched it to STD300, AMS, 1AC20, 2LLas, 2MLas. Just now I tweaked it to STD300, AMS, 1AC20, 3LLas. It has decent range with the LLas, and up close it packs a wallop.

Anyway, would love to hear your comments.

I couldn't contest your opinion harder here. The Gauss rifle has never been better for sniping than now. The charge functionality is such a small trade for the vast increase in velocity of the slug. IMO there couldn't be a better time to run a Gauss+2 PPC Misery, maybe with some MLs+1 SRM6 for self-defense.

I think you misread what I wrote .... I agree that Gauss is now a great sniping weapon. However, with Stalkers unable to get up on even the gentlest slope, I do not like using the Misery as a sniper platform. Ergo, I went short range.

Just like everybody else, I was abusing the Gauss rifle as a close-in weapon prior to the latest patch. B)

Hope that clears things up a bit!

Ha, ok. I still believe the Gauss is the optimal choice for the Misery, because you're still a stalker on the bottom line, you're still running super hot energy builds, which the Gauss complements best. Ofc right now there is nothing that can top a U/AC5, but I firmly believe PGI will come to reason and remove that ridiculous 15% chance again.
