The word Lyran is one of those "potayto", "potato" situations. Usually when someone says that word, they pronounce it as either Lee-ran, Leer-ran or Lie-ran. I've always assumed that it was said Leer-ran but, that's just me. With that said, how do you pronounce the word Lyran?

"Lie-ran" is how i've done it, because the Lyran Commonwealth got its' name from the original emblem of a Lyre back in 2341.

Leer' an

I've used "leer-an"/"leer-in", myself.

That being said...
  • Pronunciation of "lyra" in multiple languages here.
  • Pronunciation of "lyre" in English & French here.
:)

No matter the correct pronunciation I'm just going to keep pronouncing it Lie-ran, I find too many I and E sounds sometimes make things sound less badass. It's like if all the sudden I had to start pronouncing America a-meer-re-ca.

On Tharkad it is said "Leer-ran." It is pronounced differently on other worlds.

Although most just refer to the Commonwealth.

I've called them Lie-Ran alliance for years too, but every time I've heard it spoken in an official game it's "Leer-an." So I think I'm in error, but I hear both. A lot.

I also remember that the animated series pronounces the word as "Leer-ran" when the 10th Lyran Guards were mentioned. But Mechwarrior: Tactical Command pronounces the word as "Lie-ran".
