Technically its vampiric but without being able to go over your own normal total hit points. It looks like in Neverwinter its 1d6+1PCL and NW2 shows it at 1d12+1PCL.

It would be unique then for that.
I am not talking about the vampiric effect, I am looking at figuring out what kinds of Damage/DR relations there are, and it is one of only two spells that I cannot find that info for. (The other being Earthquake)
The spell type is Negative, but that doesn't mean it is doing Negative damage type, just that it can be countered some with Protection from Negative Energy.
IE: rather like the Cure spells deal Divine damage type (* to the Undead) which is not resisted normally, but you can custom make an item that does.

Its extremely localized negative material plane exposure with a siphon worked into the spell directing the stripped away health towards the caster.
Fun side note, too much contact with the positive material plane also results in not so positive ends.
If you are interested in the ins and outs of realities and magics of D&D, look into the Planescape source books. Very fun reading into the architecture of the multiverse, the stuff its made from and what binds it all together.

Neverwinter over simplifies it and treats it as general area of effect damage Reflex save for half.
NW2 holds true to this but takes it further by labeling it as blunt damage(thus other protections from blunt damage should also lessen the total impact followed by the save for half).

Mostly I have found people repeating the in game spell descriptions (half of which are half wrong >.< ) rather than actually answering the questions.
Probably does Blunt (or Bludgeoning as NWN1 calls it) damage though.

Star Wars has it (EU "Canon" vs actual "Canon")...
Warhammer revels in it....
Star Trek might not, do not know enough about it to say, but listening to the Trekies argue I doubt it....

In other news, tried making my own mercenary company.... could not.
As far as I could tell, neither the names I tried (many!) or the Tag I used were in use or canon.
However, upon hitting "submit" all I got was:
Unable to create the unit. An error has occured.
