don't care, but it would be nice to be able to opt in or out. Out basically listing you as "anonymous" in the rankings to player other than yourself.

I'd like that also.

Allow users to make their ranking visible

That is the only way to do it, and that should be done.

I vote No to a precise view of every player ELO rating, but i'd vote Yes to a simple 4 or 5 tier ladder system (you know the classic Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond style).
So you know where your skill levels are.

But that means we also need to be able to play unranked games, which could divide the players pool even more, and we already have private and public separation, then gamemodes, then CW (soon).

EDIT: Or as you proposed but maybe just for the 100-200 top players.

I'd at least like to see the top 50 players (for solo and group queues and 12 man's tracked separately) as well as top 25 12-man teams, but if aren't in the top keep it a mystery.

Tournaments are fine, but I don't want my whole MWO experience to amount to competition for the sake of it, as well as super bragging rights.

Frankly, I'm curious to know how I stack up to the rest of the game. About the only metric I can use is my placing on each tourney (Worthy Adversaries, Mediums Vs. World, etc.), and that's not really a reliable method to my way of thinking...

People need a goal to work towards.

A public rank renewed monthly is certainly useful.

But only "seeded" players, top 50? Needs to be listed publicly. Everyone else may access their private ranks.

Stay in the seeded list too many weeks and u enter into hall of honour. U are no longer ranked.

This qualifies u to free PT to train newbies.

Against,
Just redundant butthurt for peoples targeting good stats, because with current ELO system its such hard like to Y(x) to zero in y=1/x2

And community is so small that you easily can remember skilled players after fights.
