Or so Russ Bullock just said on Twitter (although, for fairness, he said that the Locust 3M is going to be popular...)

What do you think this is supposed to mean? Ideas?

The 3M is going to be the energy variant (5 lasers), so of course it will be the best Locust out of the bunch easily.

If he means it would be popular compared to the other non-Locust mechs in the game, then he's probably wrong. Most people avoid lights in general, and even many seasoned light veterans will avoid the deathtrap Locust unless they paid Phoenix money for it and/or are just nostalgic.

But how are you gonna ever cool that little thing?
Unless you use small lasers. Maybe they are also buffing small lasers?

I'd imagine a that the best loadout would probably be something like 3 ML and 2 SL, or maybe just 2 ML and 3 SL. Crazy folks would go for 5 ML or even mix in some SPL. We all know that there is SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE out there that will cram an ERPPC into that little chassis, somehow.

Oh, that makes sense then. It'll be slightly better at surviving against Streaks than the other variants.

Maybe it's a slight hint at how many Phoenix packs were sold, as regardless to which tier people bought all of them included Locusts.

With 2AMS it could be almost immune to streaks, especially staggered ones.

It would be interesting to see a pair of locusts moving around the team keeping the skies free from LRMs.

I think all Locust should have dual AMS. That would further increase the value to the team as a mobile missile defense platform. The 1V should have 3 maybe 4.

With that many you'd burn through AMS ammo quickly, so you have to sacrifice precious tonnage to add more ammo. It'd balance itself oout nicely I think.

With people not hitting a spider @ 150kph, how the heck are they gonna hit a locus @ 170 kph with 2 ams (kills off all streaks)? Why wouldn't they be popular like spiders are now.

Called it. Where do I go to collect my free ton of AMS ammo?

I'd like to see a Locust with 2 AMS hardpoints. Then get a pack of 4 locusts with 8 AMS, running after Streak Kintaros like a bunch of malicious gremlins.

By the way - is it just me, or is the Phoenix Locust the most useless of the three variants? It's like a Spider 5V champion mech.

Just wait until PGI makes the stock Locust into a trial mech.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD.

Considering the tiny size and possibly extreme agility, as well as future speed buffs to exceed 150kph, you can probably expect the Locust to be almost equally or perhaps more frustrating to deal with as the Spider. The Locust probably will only be weak in an urban setting where it may be forced to run in straight lines.

Dunno about a popular competitive mech, but I believe it will be a popular fun mech. You'll be so tiny that nobody can reliably hit you. With an AMS, you're virtually untouchable.

Also confirmed. The Locust will go as fast as 169.3 Kph.

Wait a sec here. Didn't he say the engine limit would be 190? A 190 would let it go 176.9 with speed tweak. Is it getting its engine limit lowered? This new number would reduce the Locust to a 175 engine.

I dun goofed. Speed tweak only gives 10% extra speed, not 15%.

I'm sure some of the 5 streaks on my Kintaro will get thru especially close up.

169.3 doesn't change the fact that it has almost no loadout and can be CT critted when a squirrel throws acorns at it. Especially when HSR gets fixed.

Role warfare can't come soon enough, then it might be worth taking.
