I know I know... we just got Crimson Straits, and I'm a happy boy, but I was wondering how often do new maps usually come out? I'm relatively new here and am curious. Been drooling over the (probably unofficial) new map polls, and hoping to see those show up soon, or get some rumors on their development. New and colorful places to die. I'm impatient.

About every 2-3 months seems to be about right for new map releases. IMO...they need a whole bunch more maps before they release Phase 2 of CW... but who knows. They've certainly done some things better in the last month or two, and some things seem to remain the same. Keep your fingers crossed for another new map before Xmas.

Adding more maps to the game is crucial. I noticed that I'm getting bored with the maps just cause there's so few and repeat so often.

There are ways to add more content and variety to the game. But I'm not going to write this again =) Here's a link to another thread I recommend...

Next map Moon Base, to be released Late November, early December.

Don't hold your breath.

A few months ago, they said that it was taking a long time to make new maps, because they had to create all the content (buildings, textures, etc), but once they'd made the first set of maps, things would go a lot faster. Since they'd mostly be recycling old content (new combinations old textures, buildings, etc to make new maps), we'd see new maps being released more frequently.

That didn't actually happen.

More new maps needed looking forward to the archipaglo map and moon basemap. Love mech with water though there my favorite. A good heavy forest map or jungle and a swamp map or marsh would be good.

Crimson Strait does seem to come up into rotation a lot anyone else get this too.

The archipelago map IS Crimson Straight. You are already playing it.

Crimson Strait is probably a little biased in the matchmaking because it's new. I get it more than anything outside of Terra Derpa (which I'm not a fan of thanks to the volcanic bug zapper) and Canyon Network (which I kinda like).

The ultimate problem, map-wise, that I see coming is the integration of maps into community warfare. Out of the bunch we have, only a couple actually feel like real planetary terrain (River City, Alpine Peaks, Crimson Straits, Caustic Valley) and not an arena even though they all suffer from the same basic format. This has the potential to be a serious problem once campaigns for planets begin to be fought because every planet is not going to have a mix of these environments only. I'm not sure how PGI is going to solve this, but I hope they have some good ideas they're working on.

It would also explain why CW is long in coming.

I'm betting that this "moon base" will have an ambient temp of 150C or something ridiculous like that.

Built realistically, the shadows would be very cold, the places in sunlight would be very hot (depending on the distance from the star).

Put in random drop points and make it so we don't know where the enemy base is till its scouted. That will liven up the bigger maps.

Currently enemy bases are attached to scenery it seems. So I don't know how random we'll ever be. If you could, remove them from the mini-maps and command screen then.

Pay to play maps is THE fastest way to fragment your player base hands down.

Maps have come out every 2 months pretty reliably. The three newest maps have a larger chance of being selected than the others (probably to allot them more playtime and, thereby, more testing).

Bryan hinted that they might incorporate a feature in the Moonbase map, such that the day/night cycle would be very short so that a single match would encompass one or two full day/night rotations, and such that the day cycle would have high temps and the "night" portion would have low temps - I wouldn't necessarily think this functionality would be in when the map was first released, but they would probably go back and add it later as they free up time/resources.
