I agree. While the Axeman would be nice, if there is no melee combat, having a mech like the Axeman or Hatchetman or Shiro is pointless.

I'd buy it for the looks until they get melee in (and even if they don't).

Melee Confirmed. You heard it from me.

Also HL3 is coming out tomorrow, surprise!

For those of you who don't know, there used to be a Battletech Animated Series, a 1990's cartoon with, for its time, nice CGI and some beautiful mech on mech action. It featured Adam Steiner's crusade to liberate his homeworld, Somerset, from Clan Jade Falcon.

In honour of this great series, and to bring back some fan favourite mechs to MWO, I'm suggesting a Somerset package. I think this is easy money for PGI, because the nostalgia is strong with this one.
[...]

There is money to be made here, I think. And these mechs need to be in the game.
Wolfhound (35t), Bushwacker (55t), Axman (65t) and Mauler (90t).

Three things:

1) I love this idea
2) I LOVE this idea
and 3) the pixel art is awesome ;)

The latter sounds more realistic than the former. Unless by "confirmed" you mean "Soon™".

Without Melee attacks in game, the Axeman is a completely pointless addition.

When thoes are in, AND the Clans have arrived (in the case of the other designs) this idea may have merit.

However, PGI has also gotten sooooo much flak over time fo rANYTHIGN that can mount 2 large ballistics that I very much doubt that there will ever be an Annihilator, Warhammer, Mauler, or other 2 arm/2 Ballistics assault in the game, ever. People qqing about AC40 Jägers and similar will go full blown dumbass and never come back....

Otherwise it`s just jumping ahead in the timeline for the explicit purpose of having access to tech that we shouldn`t have access to yet, which will inevitably lead to the exact form of power creep that has killed so many games before and that has had the IS pilots buying their panties pre-bundled for well over a year now with regard to the Clans. It starts harmlessly with mechs, then small "unimportant" weapons like MGs, Flamers and SLs, and 6 months later .. VOILÀ!! MIXTECH!! :D

TLDR: Main issues:

The WH and BM don`t exist at all in 3050
The Axeman is a waste of space w/o Melee
Dual Ballistic Assault is a Customer Relations Nightmare with a community like this.

Too bad they're sticking with the bass ackwards "3 variants to Master" idea. We lose out on mechs like the Axeman, Mauler, Wolfhound, Enforcer, Enfield, Grim Reaper, and more because of this. Some of these don't even get 3 variants at all in the future.

Well, obviously the Clans would need to be here. We're supposed to liberate Somerset from Clan Jade Falcon. So.... yeah.

  • The game should not be modelled after QQ in the forums
  • PGI does not really model their game after anything that goes on in the forums anyway. If they did, this game would look very different.

WH and BM? I guess WH is Wolfhound. It does exist in 3050, which is why it was in the animated series. I don't know what "BM" is supposed to be. Bush...master? You mean Bushwacker? Regardless, all 4 mechs I'm talking about do exist in 3050. They just lack 3 variants.

I'll bite I love the idea! Now thinking about it more thoroughly, this pack should only come after the clans are added, thus to honor the shows' timeline.

But perhaps there Could be melee combat? It's certainly no "engine restriction", it's just another problem for collisions.

There is also the question of whether the package, to be properly done, would/should be set before or after the mid-season upgrade...
Pre-MSU:
  • Adam Steiner: AXM-2N Axman
  • Zach Hawkins: MAL-1R Mauler (more likely a DCMS-MX90-D Daboku, given the timeframe)
  • Valten Ryder: CN9-D Centurion (more likely a CN9-A, given the timeframe)
  • Ciro Ramirez: WLF-2 Wolfhound (more likely a WLF-1, given the timeframe)
Post-MSU:
  • Adam Steiner: AWS-9Ma Awesome
  • Zach Hawkins: MAL-1R Mauler (more likely a DCMS-MX90-D Daboku, given the timeframe)
  • Valten Ryder: BSW-X1 Bushwacker (pre-production prototype)
  • Franklin Sakamoto: HTM-27T Hatamoto-Chi (episode 11, for a short time)
Perhaps such a package might work better as being just the four specific 'Mech variants (e.g. just a set of four Hero 'Mechs) rather than a Phoenix-style 12-'Mech package?

I would certainly be happy with this as well. I didn't even know that there was an AWS-9Ma in existence already. Looked it up at Sarna after I read your post. So much awesomesauce.

And if this game had a Hatamoto-Chi, I would lose my sanity. :D

Bushwacker came out in 3053.

We will not see it for another four years...

And to be honest... I'd only want the Bushwacker for it's low profile. Might be a good Medium.

As for the mauler, I'm afraid it would go the way of the Awesome. being 90 tons, and bulky. The Atlas does it better...

If it emulated the camo patterns of the Sommerset Strikers, I'd take it.

I think this is a better option.

Also let's not forget the mechs that aren't as popular because of less exposure, but are old and have a lot of variants. I like the bushwacker with an avid fandom too, but I would hate for all the new clan mechs to stop all production of the old ones like the grasshopper, firestarter, etc in mwo.

If people are getting mad about this because of the Bushwacker because they are not mass produced until 3053, remember, there were the prototypes which could be in as hero mechs.

As for the Axeman, we need this mech, even if it doesn't have its axe, we can wait till they get melee sorted out and I already have a few ideas on how they could implement it. Also, wasn't there a few Axeman variants that didn't have their axe?

Axeman and Grasshoppers are my favorite Heavy mechs, and the Bushy is one of my favorite Mediums.

in about 1 month it´s 3051... on my clock that´s 2 years out, and PGI stated they would "look into different ways to make some things available earlier"...(including prototypes and timeline jumps).... that statement answered a question specifically involving the Wacky... so, i wouldn´t count on it being that far out the window... (hey, that mech has a fanbase with creditcards B) )
