Thanks to PGI... I am hesitant to invest in another mech game made by unknowns.
Anyone have anything convincing ?

Yes.. I did follow the HG series when Activision made.

Mektek is the same people who released all of those "Megamek" expansions for MW4. They were also responsible for keeping MW4's online gameplay going on long after Microsoft shut down their "Microsoft Zone" servers which MW4 relied on. They did all this for free without ever receiving the MW4 source code from Microsoft.

This is their first commercial product, and I imagine it will be great. They really are a passionate dev team that has been working on mech-related games for 10+ years.

HeavyGear.com just got a massive facelift with a ton of new information added for anyone that's interested. We should be seeing some playable content released Q2 2014! Better pledge up guys :P

I'm glad to heard that a third Heavy Gear game is in the works by the same guys who made the MW4 mods .I have played both Heavy Gear 1 and Heavy Gear 2 back when I was a kid, even though Heavy Gear 2 felt inferior. Nevertheless, it is pretty cool that they have Jeehun Hwang, the producer for the Mechwarrior 2 and Heavy Gear Soundtracks for this game. I'll probably join the Northern faction when this game gets released.

Just Registered. I'm really starting to like where they are going with this game,I think they made the right decision by going with Heavy Gear Arena since that might make a better format for a online game.

I've thrown up a blog and public TS3 for people interested in Heavy Gear Assault. We can use the TS3 when the first playable module is released in Q2 2014. Otherwise, feel free to use it with your friends for anything else until then.

Just an FYI, a Sarna.net equivalent of Heavy Gear is being built at hgwiki.net. It just got started, but should be populated with information about lore, gears (i.e. mechs), etc. in due time. Keep an eye on it (or contribute if you can!)

The alpha access starts in June! If you go to www.mektek.net you can see the countdown with a gameplay reel. Alpha access is starting at $40, but registering an account is free (http://www.heavygear...er?ref=938686d8).

bump for nostalgia

Jennifer Brockton was also in Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Maybe her crossover into the Heavy Gear universe, was a coincidence or a nod to her due to fact HG1 and MW2: Mercenaries were both created by Activision.

Go to, and pause at 10:07 and you will see the name.

What was Jennifer's role in MW2/HG?

In Mechwarrior 2:Mercenaries, she was a Lancemate for hire.
In Heavy Gear, she was a Northern ally and Edward Scott's love interest. Later on she becomes a Southern traitor that you have to fight as a final boss.

Ah, that was HER. The Heavy Gear story was always really compelling for its twists and turns, thanks for the background!

You're welcome. I remember playing this game as a kid and beating her. Though I never understood why Scott was crying (I though he was sweating) at the end until now.

I loved the HG games. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Thanks for pointing this out.

Yeah I played HG (both of them) as a kid too, on the same box I used for MechWarrior and MechCommander. I'm pretty excited to see HG games revived!

I've been trying to get HG2 running proper again on Win 7 lately, but it's been tricky considering all the tech wizardry they did to get it run properly back in the day needs to be adapted. Any tips you could share about the process?

I've googled pretty frantically but I tend to end up with the same problem this guy has: http://www.vogons.or...pic.php?t=22059

Some manner of texture voodoo is at work, I think.

I've got an old P2 266mhz box with 98 on it, but it's unplugged and in a closet somewhere about. Even if I hooked it up, I think HG2 likes 256meg dedicated graphics and 466mhz+ processors. Have you tried running the game in a VirtualBox, that would likely be my next attempt.
