I had a thread on DS vs 9K that this came up in.

9B>9S for brawling (incredibly similar)
DS>9K for sniping

IMO, of course.

The 9B and 9S can both mount an AC20, the 9K and the Dragon Slayer cannot, so both of those variants are solid.

The 9S is the one I kept after mastering just because I didn't see a need for a third ballistic hardpoint, while a third missile hardpoint could be useful.

They're pretty much all good though, so you can't go wrong with any of them.

You think only because they can mount AC20 they are best variant??? I dont think so.
Yes I also think 9 K is worst variant, but DRAGON SLAYER is definitely best from all, cose he have better placed hardpoints, then any other.

But if you cannot buy MC the best are 9B a 9S, first is Dragon Slayer offcourse ;)

To each their own. I kept the 9B because that extra missile slot is only a 2-tube launcher. Perhaps one day they'll revamp it so that it can actually be useful, but as it is right now, unless you're running streaks, it's not that useful.

9B overall:

Can mount 3xAC2

Can Mount AC20

2E/2M offers decent backup weapon options.

9S is pretty good for either 2xUAC5 or AC20 builds. 3x Missile should be used for Streaks the way the game works now. (SRM Hitreg sucks)

IMO, 9S is the best brawler (really fast AC/20, SRM, ML platform). DS is probably the best sniper.

But try not to think in such blank and white terms as best/worst. All of the Victors are solid. Depending on your play style, you'll tend to prefer one of the variants, and that variant may be different than what others suggest.

I think the only thing the Victor doesn't do well is LRM boat. Then again I don't LRM. :)

Depends on what you want.

AC20/2xUAC5? 9S is best as it's got an extra missile slot if you need it over the 9B.

3xAC2/2AC2+AC5? 9B is best

Want 3 arm energy slots? the 9K is your mech.

Want torso mounted energy? The DS is for you.

Generally, the 9B/9S are similar, and the 9K/DS are similar, so I'd suggest keeping one of each. I personally prefer the 9S and 9K, but I've never piloted a DS.

Of the c-bill Victors, the 9S is kinda just the best. The 9B has its extra ballistics, but why you would want multiple AC/2s on a low slung arm is beyond me since they favor brawling. The 9K is kinda special because it can carry more jump jets, so I guess it's ok if you value jump speed over firepower, but you may want to wait until you're more skilled to try that.

The 9K was pretty awesome till the Gauss change. It was my favorite, but I just can't brawl with it with the gauss now, and I refuse to use Gauss till they fix it.

An AC/10+2 AC/2 build works pretty well on the 9K. It's what I went to after the gauss Nerf.

Ooh...I like that. Was using ultra/2x2 but didn't love it. I'll add this to my "to try" list. :P

Edit: you do mean on the 9B right?

Honestly, with the Victors you're spoiled for choice. All the variants are good. As has been said before the Dragon Slayer is great if you want a Hero mech, if not, the 9K is really good as well. The 9B and 9S are also excellent.

It is recommended that you get 3 variants so you can get the Elite bonuses for your Victors.
When it comes to the question of which one to buy first, I'd say either the 9S or 9B, because they can be very effective with just a few cheap upgrades.
For example:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...fc16db1063d067a

(in the 9B you'd just drop the SRM2 and leave an extra jump jet or put in an extra heatsink)

The mech is nearly stock, all that's extra is an SRM6, an SRM2, 1 ton of both AC20 and SRM ammo and DHS + Endo steel.
All in all just around 2 million C-Bills above the stock mech you buy and it works quite well while you farm the Exp and get more C-Bills for a better build or for the other 2 Victors.

I would like to see your 9K with 3 Ballistics, with that said it's an honest mistake. :D

The 9B is what you were looking for. :P

The 9K is pretty much just a mini Heavy Metal.

Get a VTR-9S and equip it as follows:

XL350
AC20
2 Medium Laser
3 SRM6
2 jump jets
Double heat sinks

Fast (70KPH without speed tweak),
Manouverable (jump jets).
Powerful.(66 alpha).
Fairly cool (33% efficiency without proficiencies).

An expensive build but fun. These results show what it can do: http://s1133.photobu...Viktor.png.html

If it runs a little hot, or you want more space with ammo, play around with armour values or swap out the 3 SRM6s for 3xSRM4's or 2xSRM6s.

Something like this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...35d008a87dd487f

Ummm, move 4 heat sinks into the engine, add endo-steel which will get you 4 extra tons to play with. This is the build that I use. VTR-9S. Also works on the VTR-9B.

Short answer: 9S
Long answer: They're all pretty solid, and you'll need all three anyway, so order is not important.

What's more, is it's actually good in a brawl yet. If there were more 'mechs that could carry 2, you'd still see them more often.

People just don't like syncing them with PPCs.
