The hexastalker was a giggly gimmick.

The 4pepsi stalker was incredibly common in comp play back in the days of the GRifle, ERPPC, 2xPPC HGN-732.

It sure was giggly. Until it evaporated a mech's ST in one alpha. Not having any over heat penalties made it a real problem. However, in comp play I can definitely see it failing, compared to the 4xPPC build, with better heat management, and more fire thrown down range for longer.

Yeah, it was great in Puglandia where the playerbase is more timid and it could evaporate a heavy or smaller in a salvo, cooldown, then repeat. Groups tended to be more aggressive in handling them after that first alpha-shutdown sequence.

That's what we did. Send me in my COM-2D to draw some fire, they miss the alpha we rush them, they hit me, we rush them. In both cases they end up dead. Though sadly, sometimes I die with them.

The ultimate trollmando: COM-1B

I've had many a Jagerbomb take a side torso and turn away thinking I was dead only to realize I kept puttering along at 160kph. The rage tears.... so dulishus....

I might have to purchase a 1B again, and run that build on it. The hilarity factor alone is enough to make my day.

Streaming again -- and I'll be starting some series on skills and tactics.

I've noticed that in general a basic lack of understanding the fundamentals, so perhaps this series will be of interest and of help to players.

I'm not sure why --another-- moderator decided again randomly to put this series in battlemechs - I've asked for it to be put under guides.

This video is by Krivvan - one of the best light players in the game.

I want to illustrate a simple but deceptively difficult piloting maneuver I'll call the J-turn, out and back from cover, allowing one to fire then return to safety.

To do a right-side J turn:

1. Enable throttle decay
2. Assuming WASD. Hold W - forward, tap A - turn legs left
3. Torso turn (mouse movement) to the right
4. Continue to Hold W - foward to move forward and fire your weapons
5. As your weapons fire, immediately Hold S - Reverse
6. Tap D - turns legs right and torso turn (mouse movement) to the left while you continue to fire
7. Hold S - reverse until under cover
8. Repeat

To be as smooth as Krivvan is deceptively hard and will take months of practice. Once you master this in a light, any other weight class - medium to assault - is easy!

Good luck working on those J-Turns.

Come watch MWO's first cash prize tournament. HomelessBill has put a lot of time and effort into creating this top-notich tournament. It's a great way to learn watching great teams and players.

Enjoy!

I guess I should follow more.. Posted Image

New mech out.. and it's amazing...

The Marauder is well-worth your money - I wouldn't buy the $15 non-jumpjet special variant - it's crap. But the Bounty Hunter II is well-worth the $15.

Here's my review:

Quote

Firstly, the Bounty Hunter II suffers from a low engine cap - max speed and maneuverability are lower than other variants. As such, you need to maximize its alpha. The direwolf is dead but here's its Inner Sphere successor:
MavRCK's BH2 aka the IS Mini Daishi

5ML 2LPL Gauss 1JJ 300XL Endo

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b4c6b829face005

Once this mech is Double Basic, it's -10% energy heat generation shines allowing you to run 5ML (when leveling I recommend 3ML or 4ML for veterans). ML Range Module, Gauss 12% cooldown Module then eventually the LPL range or cooldown module for the Master Module Slot is key. Dropping the cooldown on the Gauss is key - any other autocannon is too hot.

The Marauder has good hitboxes so remember how to rotate torsos and not over-extending like the old days of the high-flying Victor-9K with its XL engine and AC10 .. and you'll be fine.

You can also run laser vomit, but with its slow engine cap and -5% heat generation, why would you? Especially when you have this other variant:

MavRCK's meta-carry 'Wublife':

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2485d6e1f215b78

3LPL 2MPL 2JJ 350XL Endo Max -0.5 tons Armor

This mech is so easy to use and play right away. As you level it, it gets better and better.. It's major drawback is that it's so heat efficient, you sometimes wish it had 1-2 more energy hardpoints for a better alpha.

It reminds me of the BL-7-KNT-L. I think the Black Knight is tankier - has better range and more speed. Can they compete? I think so. It's a style choice, especially considering the Marauder has jumpjets. JJs help it spread damage effectively and deal with maps like Viridian Bog.

Overall, I don't know if these two mechs will be seen in Competitive play - it's too soon after the patch and major quirk changes. I have a feeling the quirk changes are going to continue as Clan Mechs are in a substantially weak position. Brawling is in a better position than ever - and this punishes XL dependent builds more than STD engine builds.

Head's up for the best informative videos for competitive / high-level MWO:

https://www.reddit.c...t_patch_review/

These EMP guys give you the no-******** on playing the best of the best builds and mechs.

https://www.reddit.c...ouncing_church/

EMP even hosts a teaching event every Sunday night.

If you want to be trolled because you're competent (?competard? lolz!?) or basically seen as an a$$h0l3 AIMBOT... then the Church of Skill is for you! These guys took KaoS to the next level and their winning record in MWO - basically everything if you consider they were Lords and even some KaoS players.

So enjoy.

Be good. Play hard. Stomp newbs. Get trolled.

<3

Mav

PS: Yes, Metamechs is a still good resource and I love that Gman is carrying the tradition of the Tier List - but more and more, I feel like the builds there are essentially toned-down or frankly, bad builds, for newbs rather than the full competitive build. SJR is well-known for not sharing their builds and tactics, etc.

I'm going to list my favourites of each class and what I think is currently strong in solo queue (usually good in meta / team). Remember, 99% of MWO players are dumb and chase red dots on the mini-map like a dog chases a cat (into traffic); accordingly ECM is really strong so use it!

Check patch notes http://mwomercs.com/...38-01-dec-2015/ for the pdf / excel file on quirks.

(Work in progress - check back often! Still thinking about IIC Orion and IIC Highlander)

Notes:

1. IIC pack released - Jenner and Hunchback are awesome as predicted Posted Image - Orion and Highlander are meh Posted Image
2. Marauder Pack released - good solid mechs, the BHII is great - the 5D is great - the 3R is meh Posted Image - I would suggest spending the 15$ on the BHII over the 20$ on the special variant of the 3R.
3. Archer Pack announced - looks very good - laser / SRM brawl meta coming - Tempest has ECM which equals Quick Play / Solo Queue Win!
