Russ linked this article on Twitter. I think it is very interesting to read. What are your thoughts?

It's a great article that some people think it doesn't apply to them because they are special snowflakes. :)

MW4 is nothing compared to this game... Pong probably took 2 years... Just saying it's apples and oranges.

Its also an example of people who don't listen to the community.

Dude how can you explain 3 years of nothing.
I did calculations in 3 years we have gotten 20 mechs (give or take), 6 maps (night and snow version don't count as they are the same map just a different setting), 2 gamemodes, and Glass that requires windex badly. EXPLAIN THAT!!! It took 2 years for MW4 Vengeance.

We're up to 3 years now? Wow, how the imaginary rhetorical-filled time flies!

Just because you post in the community, doesn't mean your ideas are good or deserve implementation, they should listen to your inarticulate ramblings why?

Whole lotta patches in the 2 years. So I wouldn't say it was nothing...

Oh, really? That's all there is? Even from a feature standpoint your list is woefully inadequate, so we'll just chalk that up to Forumite Math (Hyperbole + Opinion = Fact).

It is funny how they did not listen to the community about the modules coming overmorrow, and then he links this? After programming for 30 years I am happy I never join a big company and became what he did. There is so much wrong in this game and so much undone ..

"They claim that without the fans, we are nothing"
This statement is true. If a company upsets the majority of it's player base then the company can expect to struggle with advertisement.

We could literally decide to stop making games tomorrow and find a better paying and stable job

The problem is that PGI is NOT making a game now. They tell us that UI 2.0 will fix everything but take six or more months to get it out. When they do get it out the majority of testers dislike it. What would you say if I said a bare bones UI that is fairly straight forward could be made in a week?

Quote

but you're definitely the reason we can make a living doing this

I suggest you poll the community about development concepts and communicate with them regularly. Unite and Drop and Town Hall meetings shouldn't have to happen if you really believe you make a living off of us.

Chances are if you just make known that you'd love to see something different in a game, you'll either get a confirmation that they're working on it, a question about why you want what you propose or a response as to why it is not and probably will not be the way you request

Has PGI done this with Coolant Flush, Ghost Heat, or Seismic Sensors?

2 years, 3 months, 2 days and still no Community Warfare.

I think it would be fairer to count it from 8th Dec 2011, the day Dev Blog 1 promising CW appeared: http://mwomercs.com/...munity-warfare/

When it comes to your date, I think it would be fair pushing it a little down the road to 1st October 2011, since that's when the Twitter campaign leading to the announcement of the game started.

Give or take a month or two. I believe you get my point.

THAT!!! It took 2 years for MW4 Vengeance. MWO is not MechWarrior it is becoming better at being a MechWarrior game but the older Mechwarrior2-Mechwarrior4 Mercenaries PC games were in many ways much better than MWO is at 3 years of progress.[redacted]

Here you go

Quote

ActiveWin.com: How long was Microsoft Mechwarrior 4 in development? How many people were on the development team?

TJ "PAINGOD" Wagner: The main part of the development was 18-20 months. The core team was made up of 28 artists, designers and programmers.

Not even two years. Less staff than PGI. Straight from the producers mouth. Hope this helps. God bless.

It took PGI 18 months just to announce that making a user interface is hard work.

So a game 5 times more elaborate than MW:O (except graphics but in the day it was awesome), was made in less time than it took PGI to even give the Clan mechs a deadline.

Ummm, how do you figure. 24 scripted missions with a rudimentary AI does not a complex game make. Plus it's a single player game with Multi-player tacked on. You don't have to worry about things like weapon balancing, netcode, Hit reg, ad infinitium

PGI if you want to make a great game you must take both the good and bad criticism or it will fail.

On this we completely agree, however, criticism does not include CAPSLK and a bunch of !!!! that many of the mouthbreathers are famous for.
