Hello, I am useing a nForce 680i mother board an currently running a 8800GT video card. My current rez is 1600x1050 (thats my monitors max) with 4 gigs of ram an a 500watt PSU. I have a E8400 3.0ghz duel core processer. All this is running on WIndows 8 64bit. I am looking to upgrade my video card for MWO an some other games. When I upgrade my video card I will probley use an older 32" HDTV that I have for a monitor an run everything at 1080p. What would be the biggest video card this board can handle? I have read that people run two 480s in SLI with no problem on this motherboard. But would it be better for me to get a 500 or 600 video card vs two 480s? I know I will probley have to get a bigger PSU for a newer card or if I SLI a set of cards. I'm trying to figure out the cost vs proformance with out haveing to total rebuild my system. Last time I was keeping up with different parts an specs was when I built this system a few years back an the 8800GTs were new. So its been awhile.

Thanks for any help

it really just depends on your budget. Pretty much anything here should run just fine, save the 7970, though your CPU will end up bottlenecking anything above a Radeon HD 7850;

my biggest consern was getting a card that would have huge bottle neck issues with the mother board or CPU. I didn't want to go buy a 680 if it wouldn't be any better in my system then a 480. Or if it would be more cost effective to buy two 480s or 460s an run SLI to get the same proformance as one 680. I know a little about SLI but not a lot. Just wondering what the best rout will be to go. Price isn't a huge factor, this is the one hobby I have that I put my money into (other then hunting) an I will use the computer for other things then gaming so I can write it off threw my small business, but that doesn't mean I want to come out of pocket 3k just for a new rig. I might even ben willing to upgrade the CPU if it would make a big enough difference.

You're running LGA 775, right?
I would either recommend upgrading to this; http://www.amazon.co...5/dp/B0037HPZAI
or going with an AMD AM3+ or Intel LGA 1155 socket with a quad core (or hexacore on the AMD side) processor.

GPU wise, Your current rig will be bottlenecked by anything more than an AMD Radeon HD 7850, and if you upgraded to a quad core I would say you would be safe up to a Nvidia Geforce GTX 670. If you went with a new motherboard and CPU I would say that a Radeon HD 7970 or Geforce GTX 680 would be fine, heck either in Xfire / SLI would be fine if you upgraded to that extent.

It really depends on how long you want the upgrade to last.

I can say this, I had an Asus M2N-32 Deluxe SLI 590 mcp that was PCI-e 1.0, and first I ran two 8600gt cards in it, then I ran a 980GTX+ on it, and it looked ok, but when I bought the Asus M3N-HT Deluxe HDMI 780a SLI board with PCI-e 2.0 and ran the same 9800GTX+ in it the difference was immediately noticeable, and I was runnning the exact same model of Chip in the newer Mobo, then I tossed a Phenom II 720 triple core in it, but that didn't improve the graphics quality.. I can say with all confidence that there was a distinct improvement in picture quality in the games I played back then form PCI-e 1.0 to PCI-e 2.0, back then I didn't think it would make much of a difference, and that was kind of the general consensus to a point, but I found an noticeable improvement...
.
I would have to look, but is your mobo PCI-e 1.0 or 2.0...?? From what I remember the EVGA 680i were PCI-e 1.0..
If you could get a new CPU, Motherboard, PSU, RAM, H/D, Video Card, you would be all set... LOL
