I've heard some pretty silly assertions about things on the internet.

After nearly 12 months of continuous play, I stand by my original assessment: it's not the mech so much as it's the pilot, and it's not the pilot alone so much as it's the pilot AND the mech.

That is, a good pilot in his most comfortable mech / build trumps your tier lists.

I completely agree with Zvolimir. I have made some of the "worst" mechs in the game (Golden Boy and Locust are a few) my home and come out with some great scores.
This one is only impressive considering that it's a locust. I've had games with up to 5 kills and/or 500 damage that I wish I'd screen capped in that thing. I've even had a guy in a Cataphract rage at me swearing that I must be cheating.

Any Steiner 'mech other than an Atlas, or a Zeus, my favorite assault, I long for the day I can have my large X-pulse laser, thunderbolt 15, gauss rifle beast
the Panther
any Davion 'mech lacking at least an AC/2
unawesome 8t
Mauler in TT (a 90 ton unawesome 8t with 4 AC/2s, still only 2 tons LRM ammo)
any 'mech trying to directly replace or emulate an unseen 'mech ie the Jagermech
any fewer than a full regiment of Urbanmechs
stock Centurians other than the 9D, the Enfield, Enforcer, and Bushwhacker are far superior AC/10 platforms
any Nova variant other than the Prime config
any fAtlas or Stalker equiping an XL engine
any Awesome that does not either fire 3 PPCs then 3 PPC's, then 2 PPC's or 4 PPC's then 4 PPC's then 3 PPC's (ie. the 8Q and 9Q, two of the few stock 'mechs I cannot improve much on)
the AC/20 Urbie
any 'mech equipping exclusively LRMs
the Charger CGR-1A1, 80 ton 'mech, 5 small lasers
any 'mech equipping ELRMs or NLRMs
SplatCats in TT
any 'mech with SRMs and more than 1 ammo bin not equipping at least 1 ton of tandem charge ammo when it is available
any 'mech using incindary LRMs
LRM-equiped Catapults that are not basically improved C-1s
Catapults using SRM's as the primary weapons in TT
the Raven 3L in the TT
any 'mech attempting to make use of a blazer
and, the Shogun, please no head PPC's that are actually in the side torso...also dispite it's name, not a Kurita 'mech it is Ster League
