I can thank Gearstripper for this particular build and achievement. 2 LB 10x AC's, 4 machine guns and 2 medium lasers. It's a really nasty build and also extremely low heat!

It's an Awesome build. Jagger DD with 2 LBX 10's, 2 Med Lasers and 4 Machine Guns. Steady fire, Low heat. And that OMG factor when they are getting nailed. I recommend this build for anyone who likes steady fire into the face of their enemies. Only setback is it is a short range brawler.

No, one has answered this- when is Ost<anything> good?

The name of this thread is: Every mech can be good in the right situation. Tell me: WHEN IS AN OST MECH GOOD EVER!!??

Ostscouts are the least offensive thing on the field- heck, there's ones built with NO GUNS. It's basically a slightly heavier, more durable Spider...until 3064-65 and the -9's, which drip with electronic warfare gear and actually pack modest amounts of laser firepower to boot.

The other Ost-series designs?

The Ostsol and Ostroc are mostly wrapped around energy weapons, which in MWO would make them the groundbound cousins to the Quickdraw. On the other hand, all the guns are in the torso which can make it tough to crack in MWO terms, since the arms are basically shields.

The 65-ton Ostwar is a missile boater with a few energy hardpoints for backup firepower, with an LRM in the torso and SRMs in each arm. Likely similar to a non-jumping Catapult-C4 in MWO translation, but wider fields of fire with it's arms only missing hand actuators. It was the ancestor to the other Ost-series designs, but gets a modern reboot during the Jihad era that isn't too shabby.

One of my personal favorites from the past year was in a Jäger DD with dual LB10X, and 4 MG. It was my personal best in terms of destroying Stalkers, which are my favorite chassis to run. 5 of the Stalkers on the enemy team fell to my Jäger.

Going back to the title of the thread, the Oxide has become one of my favorite go-to light chassis. It's received a LOT of negative attention, as most people who comment on this chassis feel it's next to useless. I should have gone to a casino after this match.

Prior to the SRM fix, that was indeed the case- you were mostly limited to effective Streak boating and not much firepower otherwise. Obviously, that has changed.

Streaks with 4 tons of ammo, BAP, and Artemis are all I run on it. Makes an excellent light and medium hunter. The Oxide screen shot is from about a week after they came out.

Nothing wrong with Ostmanns. Personally, I'd like to see the Ostwar.
