As the Unijar and Mogoi, both enigmatic Pentagon-class Dropships, entered Sheridan’s atmospherics with simple pefunctory acknowledgement from Aerospace Command, they landed at the primary Dropport with no fanfare. Not long after touchdown, a clutch of warriors clad in simple dark-grey jumpsuits was arrayed to the front of the landing area in formation.

As the bay doors opened between two of the huge landing claws and an egress ramp lowered with a clang to touch the ferrocrete landing slab, two figured walked smartly to the base of the ramp. Both wore similar dark-grey jumpsuits, but across the shoulders was simple yellow-gold piping and on the short, no quite mandarin style collars, pips of rank that denoted each Mechwarrior’s position. The shorter of the two carried four simple gold bars along his neck and no other adornments. The second, clearly someone with Elemental genes in his bloodline, towered over his superior, and along his neckline, barely visible were the two black fangs denoting a Kyrgyz.

With no signal given, as the massive warrior stepped forward and his right foot touched the slab of ferrocrete just forward of the ramp, the formation of Mechwarriors snapped from a position of parade rest, to one of attention, staring at the warrior to their front. As the left followed right, placing the Kyrgyz exactly one footfall past the ramp, he began to speak to the assembled force.

“Your Trials of Position will not occur here on Sheridan, Adders. We have few enough warriors and less time than is optimal. These ships launch today. This mission is unlike any Star Adders have undergone before, and thus we take the unusual step of taking only volunteers.”

The gravel voiced warrior paused, looking down from the ferrocrete slab at the assembled mass with a look that might have been disdain or simple bemusement. It was difficult to tell. Regardless, he had their rapt attention.

“Your Trials will take place en route. Many of you will not pass, but you will not be wasted. If you volunteer, you will fight for this Galaxy, regardless of your standing.”

Regarding each of them in a swift pass with his eyes, locking eye contact if only for a fraction of a second, he ended,

“Of that you can be most certain. Glory awaits all who fire forward on this path, but only we few may ever know of it.”

Theta Galaxy of Clan Star Adder, the “Smoke Adders” are opening recruiting for a limited time.

In competitive play, we strive to win at all (legal) costs and to play in a disciplined manner. It is a team sport and no amount of individual talent can really change that, so we expect members to harness their best efforts and fight hard within the team when we drop in formal competition.

In casual play, we just play to have fun. No leadership requirements, no Mech requirements, no specified weapon systems etc. Run what you want to have fun in and enjoy the drops with our group.

We are an inclusive group that strives to maintain quality over quantity so our recruiting time-frame will be limited. In preparation for Commuity Warfare, we envision fleshing out our Galaxy with competent, mature pilots who want to have a good time and get better at the same time (the two do not need to be a mutually exclusive thing).

We schedule most events to occur near 9pm EST traditionally (our tournament matches and formal practices) and typically have people online from 6pm - midnight or later EST and more on the weekends. We have players from all across NA, some in the UK and even one currently in Afghanistan. So please bear in mind timezone availability when you consider us.

You can read about our membership tenets HERE.

More on our Trial of Position and how it fits into our membership process HERE.

And a handy FAQ page with some recurring questions, HERE.

We do ask that hopeful applicants have at least three hundred-fifty (350) drops under their belt before applying. We realize that is a significant number for many, but it also helps to do several things: shows who is truly vested in playing and getting better at the game, you have undoubtedly learned some of the game’s nuances and hopefully by that point you understand the value of teamwork in a game such as MWO.

If you are under 350 drops, feel free to consider us and come by for drops to get to know the organization. While you are dropping with Smoke Adders, you can get a feel for whether we are the right kind of unit for you and vice versa, while working up to that drop number.

While we have a private Mumble Server, we typically use the Comstar NA Teamspeak to play with friends from outside of the unit, so feel free to drop in with us there in the Smoke Adders channel:

Additional edit regarding a question that's come up twice just today:

For those units who are smaller than they wish to be, who wish to investigate merging with our Galaxy, they are more than welcome to contact myself, Bedevere42 or Cyphersphere to iron out the particulars. Your unit heritage will remain part of the building of our unit, whether you come as bondsman and isorla or as sibkin. We would add your skills and legacy to one of the three existing Clusters as a Star or Binary with its own specific history.

Come one, come all!

We do not discriminate between trueborn or freeborn -- or even if you have no idea what those mean.

We are the swift, silent predator, striking when our prey is most vulnerable, and then disappearing like smoke before the wind.

We've got a good number of applications coming in, but we could use some more. We need to fill in some gaps in our Touman.

This thing belongs on the first page.

We'll be filling spots in the 173rd Hussars Cluster soon. Help us form the foundation of a successful unit!

For those unaware, in the canon-lore, Clan Mechwarrior hopefuls worked through a sibling-company (or sibko) until washing out or reaching an age and level of skill, capable of trying out in a final test that would determine if they remained in the Mechwarrior caste or were demoted to some other.

Theta Galaxy, the Smoke Adders are no different in that our members also participate in these final tests, traditionally called Trials of Position. You can read more about how we undertake ours HERE if you are interested in learning more.

This weekend, 9pm EST on Sunday the 30th, 15 of our pilots will compete in Trials of Position against the anonymous Blood Officers of our Galaxy. If you would like to observe this event for a round or two, feel free to join us. It should be a fantastic night of fighting, Adder versus Adder to determine who earns their Blooded Warrior status and who will continue to learn and become better pilots for the Galaxy.

In addition, pilots not involved directly in the honor duels will undoubtedly call each other out for Zellbrigen (Clan Honor duels) between each ToP being conducted!

27 seats are taken for this event. Feel free to check it out if you have an interest in one of these key facets of Clan lore from the game, the novels etc. It should be a great night of one on one fights as we move our Galaxy forward in preperation for community warfare!

Pentagon-class Dropships Unijar and Mogoi began the 1.5G burn to planet side, arriving at an undisclosed system earlier this morning. Warriors prepare themselves for the Trials that will tell the first tales of their lives as Adder warriors in a mere 33-hours.

Sixteen warriors have the chance to earn their Blooded Warrior status within the Galaxy, facing anonymous Blood Officers in augmented combat on a ground not of their choosing, in conditions unknown to them. The scent of honor, blood and pride rides across the battleground to come, waiting for the arrival of the Smoke Adders. Will there also be the scent of fear? Let skill and warrior acumen strip those from the ranks that create such a stench.

With only six hours remaining until hot drops into their trials began, the twin Pentagon-class Dropships slowed their descent to one standard gravity, as warriors inspected their war-machines and oversaw the installation of combat drop-pods to allow their Mechs to enter gravity to their established drop zones.

Six different drop zones were established for the warriors and their Blood Officers to engage in their trials. Six drop zones for sixteen warriors, all ready to engage as soon as the plas- and ferro-steel carapaces would fall free from their Mechs moments before impact allowing them to fire their drop-jets one last time to prevent destruction on impact. Statistically, there was a significant possibility that one or more pilots would suffer some form of catastrophic failing in their equipment, but the leaders of the 173rd Hussars Cluster, the "Winged Vipers," understood that the vagaries of technology in warfare, the potential for luck, the fogs of war were all necessary variables that the Snakes had to face as part of their Trials.

While a waste to lose a warrior to such an ignominious end, it would serve as an object lesson to all of the other Snakes competing within their Trials.
