Yeah but when(and if) CW ever happens you guys will be at a major disadvantage.

There are many units which don't force their members to adapt affiliation to a certain faction, especially in the competitive scene (okay swk and hhod being an exception) but there are prestigeous units such as
Steel Jaguars who have Marik#2 Liao#5 Steiner#2 Steiner#6 Kurita#6
Black Spikes who have Marik#1 Liao#2
or the House of Lords (if that counts as a Unit) with: Marik #1 Marik#2 Merc#1 Merc#2 Liao#1 Steiner#6 FRR#9 Kurita #6 Davion #9
See? all mixed up. Once CW is introduced, there might be exactly these units opting for a weaker faction for the challenge or as ShinVector stated because they like the feeling of being the underdog.

That, incidentally is why the Goons went with Liao- because it'd be smallest otherwise, leading to the least amount of leadership conflicts and the most "pure" challenge.

I'd say anyone wanting to be an underdog would be going FRR. Much respect for those guys: Iron fist on one side, Dragon on another, a wolf and a bear on the other, and...fifteen? star systems left over after the Clans come calling. Some Periphery states are larger (which, by the way, if it were an option, that's what I'd be).
