There isn't an SRG. There have been several people discussing forming it, but nobody has actually gone so far as to actually form it. So feel free to join whomever you wish, including your own SRG unit!

I'd like to reiterate that because it is a well-known, established canon unit in BattleTech and MechWarrior, this particular Wolf's Dragoons is not in fact a single mercenary unit. It is a conglomeration of merc units, or more appropriately an alliance. One does not outright join the Dragoons - they join a unit which is within that alliance.
So, TL/DR version: find one of the units that is part of this alliance and sign up, or create your own and join!

The above link is one Garth set up to recognize independant merc corps. How much this will legitimize our claims, we'll see. And I've reluctantly added the Devil Dogs website onto this list, for fear of someone else claiming the name - especially because some names are being disenfranchised via our inability to play canon units.

I feel relatively safe in saying, there isn't a dang thing anyone can say or do to prevent a player, whether it be Firefly from Blank Windows Corps or Jimmy Joe-Jack Shoefly from "It Burns When I PvP" from saying "We have an MWO alliance or merc units, a meta-game/out-of-game structure, called "Satan's Baby-eaters and Other Racist Activities" run by members of the New Black Panthers and the KKK and the Hell's Angels and 4chan. Maybe even Goon Squad, but that's a significant stretch.
Consequently, I also feel relatively safe in saying, there isn't a dang thing that anyone can do to a merc unit that joins said alliance. As long as your merc unit has a non-canon name that doesn't circumvent a filter (and let's be frank here: alliances are not merc units, considering they are nebulous entities that have no officially-supported game structure other than players from respective "subordinate" units being present in-game), you could call your alliance House Davion or Word of Blake or Clan Fluffybunny or Wolf's Dragoons or Eridani Light Horse.
So what's the difference in an alliance in any other MMO like SWTOR or Planetside, versus an alliance in MWO? Absolutely nothing. I've drawn a chart for the rules lawyers. In the example below, in which everything should be blatantly clear, I don't see a CSR renaming any of the units below. And they certainly can't rename an alliance. So... what exactly is you guyses beef?

You misunderstand my point. You will not be allowed to use the name Wolf's Dragoons, OR any of the names of their various sub-units. So for example all the people trying to raise Black Widow Companies will be blocked from using that name. While obviously you can have alliance agreements outside of the structure of the game, and name them whatever you wish, I was merely saying that you guys will be fighting an uphill battle to try and make the Wolf's Dragoons (at least officially), and that the devs seem to be planning on having units such as the Dragoons be NON-player owned and allow people to join based on standing. At that point, it makes sense not to have random unofficial Grey Death Legion and Kell Hounds units that are owned by players, because then you have a mix of official and non-official versions of the same units, which is kinda silly.

But the whole thing is outside of the game. That was the whole point of this. No one is trying to be 'The Wolf's Dragoons' It was about having an association to the Dragoons. And prior to the further details provided by Bryan, was an attempt to work within the previously defined outline which stated units like the Dragoons and the Highlanders for example would be locked out. At that point also there had been no mention of the Dragoons becoming a playable faction. I would like to see them become such, however. No one here is or ever tried to hold the community to ransom over ownership of the 'Dragoons'.
I don't think anyone has missed your point. Everyone here understands the names will be locked out. Units which were using a restricted naming convention have changed their names already. This is an out of game forum of cooperation, and nothing more. We all look forward to seeing what options PGI will allow for diplomacy and cooperation under the banner of an official Wolf's Dragoons faction in the future.

No, sir. I understood your point perfectly. YOU seem to be missing the point. This is in no way official or in-game. This is unofficial, outside of the game, where neither you nor anyone else - not even a developer - can regulate, prohibit, condone, endorse, sanction, ban, support, or otherwise code it out of existence. It is not a single unit. It is a cooperative effort between sovereign and unique merc units, all of whom are holding to the letter and spirit of the developer's lock-out of the canon unit names.

Not to pile on the ***-kicking band-wagon, but YOU'RE actually the one that does not understand. We saw all this name restrictions coming, just not to the degree of "All canon names will be deleted." We have prepared what we are going to do, and we are still united as an alliance against the enemies of the Dragoons. Our forums will stay intact. Our names out of game, will stay intact. We are Dragoons.
We will simply not be using Canon names in-game.
We know about what you are saying, again. You just don't seem to understand that we understand it all perfectly aswell.

You can join any unit in the Wolf's Dragoons - we are an ALLIANCE so you would need to pick a unit and be part of that unit. As for proper names, I very much doubt the developers will now allow a merc unit called "Special Reconnaissance Group" so your chances of finding a unit with that name in the alliance will be practically nil. You can, of course, always start your own merc unit and join the alliance.
