I really like my Locusts.
Sure they're not very durable.
Sure they're not that strong.

But they are incredibly fun to use.

And so, I'd like a Hero Locust.
I would have like the Phoneix Locust too, but I just missed being able to get it.

But, a HERO mech, that I could get.

Maybe something like the 3V, with 4Ballistic (arms) and 2 Energy (Torso) would work as the base?

Or just create their own (as they've done before).
Maybe put some weapons in the Side Torsos? (Missile Arms, Ballistic STs and Energy CT?)
Maybe some ECM?
Or give it a pair of Jump Jets!? (Maybe the option of 2-4)

Or any mix of the above.

What do you guys think?

Done.

I love my 169km/h locust, speed is the locust's shield. The only problem is that Lrms can still hit it (silly) even at that speed. Hero locust would need ECM.

Locust Hero:

0 AMS
1 ECM hardpoint
1 CT Missile hardpoint
2 each RA and LA Energy hardpoint

Stock build is ECM, SRM4, and 4x SLs.

The build works with an XL190 if you drop 2 points from each arm and lower the head to 9 armor. 1 ton of ammo.

Alternatively, drop to an XL180, and max the armor.

You drop the head to 5 armour and max everything else then.

With Endo+Ferro, that magic number is max everywhere, 5 on head.

I'd also like it if it had all 3 hardpoint types.

Say, CT=2E, RT/LT= 1M each, RA/LA = 1B each.
Whack in an AMS and maybe an ECM slot (though it's honestly doubtful), and you could happily have 2xSRM2 (+1T ammo), 2ML, 2MG (+1/2 or 1T ammo) for 5-5.5T. Go 5 and that's 1.5 left for an ECM if you want. :)

Hero locust needs some experimental tech, like the following:

Engine: 260 XXL, with XL Gyro (top speed: ~200 kph)
Chassis: Endo Steel
Armor: Light Ferro-Fibrous (4 tons)
10 Double Heat sinks
Small Cockpit

Weapons:
2 Med. X-Pulse Lasers
2 Magshot Gauss Rifles (1 ton ammo)
2 Rocket Launcher 10s

Hard points:
LT - 1 en
RT - 1 en
LA - 2 ba, 2 mi
RA - 2 ba, 2 mi

As much as I'd love to see that, isn't it just theRL10s, FF and DHS that are even available in the timeline atm?

At present, no experimental tech is available period. The small cockpit, XXL engine, XL gyro, Light Ferro, and all the weapons would be experimental tech. (though the RLs are more like retro tech tbh) My original concept used a composite structure and Heavy Ferro, which would free up another half ton, without using up the remaining space. If we had access to the engine and gyros at least, it would free up a decent amount of tonnage though.

Ooooh, make it "The Best Buddy". Have one CT Missile slot, lets say a NARC launcher, follow this up with an MG in the left and right torsos. Then toss on ECM in the right torso and an AMS in each arm. All the firepower of a wet compost heap, but all the warmth of the sweater that Grandma knitted for your 11th birthday. There you go, you even have a camo scheme for it too, an ugly Christmas sweater :)

Hero Locust needs ECM slot. thanks.

9/14 (180 engine - 1 ton gained from dropping the MG ammo), med laser, 2 light lasers. otherwise similar to base mech.
why 140+ kph ? to outrun the friggin LRMs

make it 5 energy, 6 ballistic or 3 missile slots. thanks.

No ECM for hero locust - thats too P2W.

maybe it would be OK if it only had like 3 hardpoints and was limited to a 170-180 engine, or something, but I still think its a bad idea to give any hero 'mech ECM unless one of the regular variants of that chassis has ECM.

Also, I think it would be kinda BS if the hero locust had a higher engine cap than the regular locusts.

I do think that all locusts should have their max engine size increased from 190 to 195, though. This would make it slightly faster than the commando. As it currently is, its slower than the commando... which is unfortunate since the commando is way more durable, so it basically outclasses it in every possible way.

That being said, I would absolutely buy a hero locust as long as it can hold at least 3 energy weapons. Energy weapons are the backbone of a good light mech build, IMO. Missiles are just too heavy for the locust to use effectively.

That being said, here are some suggestions:

Here is what I would really like to see:

LA: 2E, 1B
RA: 2E, 1B
RT: 1AMS
Same quirks as the LCT-1E (Reduced torso twist)

Here is a smurfy link - pretend that the small lasers are machine guns, and pretend that the XL190 engine is an XL195.

LCT-N "Noisy Locust" (MIB reference haha)

If you raised the locust max engine to 195 in the same patch for all variants, every locust fan would definately buy this, with the included engine being a little extra incentive. Since the XL195 weighs the same as the XL190, it is probably a drop in upgrade for peoples existing favorite locust build.

I totally reckon this thing needs JJ's and ECM. Why? Because the Irony alone of all the "Locust is P2W" threads would be worth it!

Actually, that small cockpit idea is cool.

give it a debuff to turning speed, deceleration, and twist speed. this represents the 'hard to pilot' effect found in TT.
reduce head internal structure from 15 to 10.
also, do a different inside view with worse visiblity.

Hardpoints:
HD: 1E
CT: 2E
RT: 1AMS
LA: 1B
RA: 1B

Stock build is 1 large laser in the head, backed up by 2 small lasers and 2 machine guns.

EDIT: Sadly, the small cockpit is not around until 3067

Or what about a crazy build with a PPC in a side torso, and some small lasers to back it up?
CT: 2E (2 small lasers)
LT: 1E (PPC)
RT: 1 AMS (not used on stock build)
LA: 1E (small laser)
RA: 1E (small laser)

Give it a buff to torso pitch angle for good measure.

PPC Locusts are really fun, and this mitigates the risk of installing it in an arm that is so easily destroyed.

I'll add a suggestion here later one (have to check to void collisions with the Flea), in the meanwhile could you add something in the mould of 'maybe' or 'yes, if hardpoints are good' option to the 'would you buy' question. Much appreciated.

If you're going to give any Hero mech ECM it should be the Locust. Really I just want to hear people crying about P2W over a Locust. :D

every patch I ask them where my hero locust is on facebook and what not....

remember, the locust really, at most, gets 7-7.5 tons of gear after engine, HS, and armor....

you aren't getting a PPC + 4 SL.

You can do LL/ERLL + 4SL with 170XL engine.
