Hello everyone! Currently I am deployed and I am going to build a full simpit when I get home. Well as long as MWO doesn't go to hell by the time I get back. I already started collecting pieces for it and my sister yelled at me because odd things keep showing up at her door lol. I use MSI Afterburner to set and monitor fan speeds after I had an incident and my 470GTX didn't fry somehow. There is a quad foot pedal setup not in these pictures. See the photos below for what I was using pre-deployment.

I scored a CNC mill controller from work for free which I will repurpose for my mech cockpit.

And I will be using this with the CNC controller if I can figure it out.

My ambition outweights my computer code writing/ logic skills though (slim to none).

And I also won some old arcade control panels on e-bay to mount above and in front of me in the simpit.

I will probably buy a small laptop off e-bay and throw a web cam on it to capture the radar screen on the tv and incorporate the laptop screen into the arcade control panel. I figure that would be the easiest way to accomplish that (no software and additional tv to hook up and tax the gaming rig). And lastly a left handed joystick-

So this isn't one of those "build my rig but I can never afford to actually put it together" posts. It will happen. Well as long as MWO doesn't go to hell...PGI...

Anyways, I have not been paying attention to the whole computer scene for quite a long time since it changes so often so I need a lot of help in what I will need. There are a few musts:
1) Video card needs to be able to run 3 tv screens in 1080 and not look like crap.
2) Audio must be surround sound. Gone are the days of built in or crappy audio cards!
3) Liquid cooling on CPU and if possible GPU. I will always spend $$ on keeping things cool.
4) To SSD or not SSD?
5) Lets try to keep this sub $2,000 ;-)

Thanks,
Mike

If your gonna use it primarily for this game, I'd go with a Intel/Nvidia set up. An Intel i5 4670K is ideal because it's overclock able and would beat any amd fx processor for pure instruction per clock performance. This game doesn't utilize AMD ' S advantage of multiple cores as most cores are just parked while the 2 cores where most of the magic happens just isn't as fast as intel's. Since your running 5760x1080, I'd throw in a single GTX780ti 3gb and it should have enough vram as well as core horsepower to push to pixels out even at max settings. SSD isn't really needed not unless you like being one of the first guys before the drop. I'm not really a fan of liquid cooling as I believe that a well sorted case with proper cable management and air flow is all you need. Most modern motherboards have decent sound built in. Look for a MOBO with an optical digital output and just connect that to a proper thx receiver.

lol well mwo has already gone to hell i think we are back in closed beta now? lol... anyway

definitely a gtx780ti for your gpu
cpu id go with a i5-4670k, this is a pure gaming rig by the sounds of it so no reason to get into i7's

  • I just jumped on CyberPowerPC and threw this together. If I shopped around and put it together myself I could drop the price a few hundred easy I think and hit that $2000 mark. Plus the GTX 780ti should drop in price a bit by the end of the year since some new fancy stuff should be out and it won't be top on the line anymore. How is my motherboard selection? Anything I should change??

good call Loc, pcpartpicker.com is by far your best bet for best pricing unless of course you have a micro center near you when you get home.
