Nice build I have a hunchback that's a lot of fun with a similar armament this looks like its big jumpy brother.

My Hunchie:

One small detail in your build if you move that heatsink out of the engine and into the right torso you add an additional item to spread crit damage over might save your BaP or avoid an ammo explosion every now and then. Also it leaves you with a nice 0 Slots free build.

I have to admit, I love my Griffin, but the 1S was not a good fit for me. I kept losing the energy arm all the time.

My ride is the Griffin 3M, with probably a more balanced build than some people would like, but it works for me. (Go ahead, take that arm. Doesn't matter to me much...)
(Sorry, no pictures of my cammo, but it's just basic anyway, with blue, white and a black line.)

Solid build. My 1N is in a semi-similar vein.

it's been doing rather well for me. Like you though, the 1S is by far my worst Grif.

ran that for a bit. Didn't quite fit me, I prefer the front load damage to my ERPepsi.

Drop the ALRM10 for an ALRM15 + ALRM5. That gives one extra ton(TAG/mlas). Drop one JJ and you have enough for an AMS.

I personally have mixed feelings about the 1S Griffin.
Here's to hoping Russ's twitter comment on a "cool set" which he's latter alluded to "new variants for existing mechs" might include some Griffins.

I'd change the LLs to ERLLs (heat dependent) and count mostly on the SSRMs for anything within 270m, with some occasional bursts of ERLLs in that range. (61% cooling with just 2 ERLLs being fired, and 101% cooling with just the SSRMs. Should be able to balance the damage ranges I'd think well... Though LLs are also very nice too, so don't get me wrong!)

Overall, I like this build. Very nice. Reminds me of my Shadowhawk 2D2.

I've been running this balance of weapons for a while now. Started with a Stalker build that I created and loved and did extremely well in, and then kinda went "If it works well there, what else can it work on?" And then I went crazy with it! (Have a Thunderbolt, Battlemaster (sold), and then this Griffin (among others) with this design.)

My first build for the 3M was good, but ran very hot. Was forced to change the weapons slightly to prolong activity in long close in fights.

Actually, I've had poor luck with all other Griffins. I lose that arm and it really hurts the other Griffins, especially seen as they have less missile points to fill in with SSRMs, which help to counter that weakness. Thus, I've had a harder time with them performance wise. (I was wondering why everyone was aiming for me 3M's right arm all the time. And now I know!)

Possibly take some armor off the shield arm to reinforce the legs?

I'll take new Variants on a lot of other mechs. So many of them only have 3 variants available right now, and others (older ones) have 4-5 variants...

Thinking about it, Hunchback and Awesome have 6 variants if you count the heroes.

Hm...
I wonder if PGI will eventually 'standardize' 5 variants + a hero? Or if they would go higher in variant numbers?
If it winds up 5 and a hero, then the Dragons might only get one more variant (3 variants + 2 heroes means room for one more).

I could see that... wouldn't be too bad of a system for the mechs that have the variants to get there. And the ones that don't and only have 3 can just say at 3 with no real problem...

Yeah but I hope they don't stop at 3. It'd be pretty dull.

My biggest issue with the LRM 5 and it's the same reason I don't run the 3M is that a single AMS will shoot every missile out of the volley before it ever hits a target. I learned that anybody running a Jester (2 AMS) who knows what they're doing should be left alone with anything less than an LRM 15. Thats the reason I feel more comfortable with the 2 LRM 10 set up because the volley still has a tight enough pattern to kill lights quickly but not so tight that an AMS renders them useless.

Dealing with my play style, I tend to peak around corners exposing my left arm. I guess it's a habit because I'm right handed IRL but that affects my play style in the sense that it shields my energy arm from attack but allows me to fire LRMs from a relativity covered position making that left torso missile rack a better fit for how I play.

No doubt Griffins are fun. Here's my personal favorite:

GRF-1N

People seem to favor the 3M but I've really taken a liking to the 1N. For one I get that c-bill bonus and I like the hardpoints a bit better. Both of the other Griffins are fun too.

I love all my Griffins. Here are my builds.

Griffin-1N - Unchanged since day 1. A solid performer. I would go with an XL 275 or 300 but I didn't have one.

Griffin-1S - Speedy and sneaky.

Griffin-3M - This build changes from time to time but it's always built around 4xLRM5s
