The title of this thread pretty much states it.

Resources:
  • MechCommander 2 free download (with source code): Here
  • Wolfman X expansion pack (my missions run it, it adds tons of stuff): Here
For editor:
  • Visual Redistributable Package (x86): Here
  • Visual Redistributable Package (x64): Here
  • XNA Build March 2006 CTP: Here
Beyond what I have in this first post, it is up to you how you geek out about the game. Post whatever (even missions!), just make sure it follows the Code of Conduct!

Ion Cannon- High rate of fire, good damage per shot, small, medium ranged, high heat, expensive.
Neutron gun- Large damage, better rate of fire than HFD, small, high heat.
High Frequency Disintegrater (HFD)- Small, insane damage, low heat, slow.
Heavy Thunderbolt- Homes in, good damage, high heat, big.
Tango Blue- Homes in, instant-kill, high heat, big
Quake- Massive area of effect, big, high heat

I'd highly recommend none of the three missions I talked about in the last post.

Heartlands- Outgunned almost eight to one, not counting the (well armed) turrets.
Wastelands- Waaaaay outgunned
Tourmaline Tropics- You have to command a defense against multiple attacks in multiple locations

They're possible but ridiculously hard.

It is probably going to be months if not years before I get to it - I have been playing off of my CD copy - but the RNG has been hating me (2 of the starting pilots headshot-dead in the first tutorial mission type hating me)

Making my own training campaign. This will teach you most of the stuff about the game.

Including what the normal training campaign didn't.

Rather like MWO - there is a lot it didn't even try to cover. ;)

Hey David how do I get multiplayer?

I have no idea :)

I think Wolfman X's official website had something, but it runs so many javascripts per page that I can't load it to confirm that.

Let me know if you find anything. Anyone else know anything?

I'm quite sure there is no multiplayer possible with Wolfman's standalone games, and the available source code doesn't allow for it (no code provided by MicroSoft, from what I know). Wolfman's MC2-X mod (the mod for the retail MC2) allows multiplayer, from what I've seen.

The MechCommander OmniTech mod doesn't have multiplayer, as it is based mostly on the original MC2 source code.

Time to go find the original on Ebay.

I am pretty sure the source version can't do these things:
  • Play .bik videos
  • Multiplayer
  • It has problems running my custom audio files
Anything else it can/can't do?

I have tried a few times, but my creativity doesn't seem to bend that way. :P

Best I seem to come up with (as in, most functional) is really flat maps with lots of mechs.

Good ol' Carver V. Played the campaign through twice, and wolfman's mods add a ton of life to the game.

I have tried to work on my own campaign, but there's hardly any time for me to work on it.

My campaign's first mission is almost done, in terms of what enamies there are and the structure of the map, but the AI scripting is an evil obstacle.

For those interested in making detailed maps, you can use Terragen (Classic edition, I believe, but the newer version could also work) to create a height map. You'll have to do some file format conversions; save Terragen work as RAW format, open the file in PhotoShop (or GIMP, but that might not work), convert to grayscale, and then export/save as .tga file. Then, in the MC2 editor, you'll have to open that image as a height map. The height map is only accepted in .tga format. I don't have access to the editor right now, so I'm not 100% confident about the exactness of this process; this is based on how I remember it.

I just use straight GIMP.

If you know how to add variants to the .cvs file, then try adding this to the Warhawk chassis!

If you don't, read this tutorial first:
  • Step one: Open the data\objects folder
  • Step two: Open the .cvs file of the specific chassis in Notepad
  • Step three: Scroll to the bottom of the document
  • Step four: If you see a ",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,," as the last line (a new line that is empty is okay, but there has to be the commas) then you're good.
  • Step five: Add the variant chassis (make sure there aren't two ",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"s, or it will glitch. A lot.)
  • This is what is should look like (this is only part of the text):
    • CurrentArmorPoints,20,25,25,34,34,41,27,27,13,13,17
      ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
      VariantInfo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • It should not look like this (errors underlined, last line of previous variant bold, first line of pasted or new variant italicized):

    • CurrentArmorPoints,20,25,25,34,34,41,27,27,13,13,17
      (No commas here)
      VariantInfo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Or this

    • CurrentArmorPoints,20,25,25,34,34,41,27,27,13,13,17
      ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
      ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
      VariantInfo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That would be great!

I didn't know you could add Warhawk to the game (it wasn't originally in the game to my knowledge). How would I be able to actually add new mechs into the game, with completely knew graphics and all that stuff?

Wolfman-X expansion pack

That variant uses Wolf weapons. Wolfman-X adds so much vibrancy and life to the game.
