You get an additional zoom window with 4x zoom and a very narrow field of view. It can be helfpul for extreme range shots, i.e. past 1km. It requires practice to get the lead time right, as your distance perception becomes distorted. Really only useful for ERLL/ERPPC/Gauss sniper setups.

Other than what Modo44 said, I use it to scout for mechs outside sensor range or under ECM sometimes. It is hard to see distant mechs on my screen and with everything on low so it can be pretty useful.

Good for arty & air strike as well :(

It's still useful at closer ranges if you're experienced with it. It helps with targeting specific components. Just be aware that it reduces your situation awareness significantly. And for god's sake remember to zoom out when the fight gets close quarters, many people I spectate seem to forget to do that. Objects in zoom are closer than they appear, focus on the actual closer ones!

how exactly do you set it up?
  • skills, pilot tree, unlock the module (you seem to have done this part already)
  • Go to mechlab, configure mech, and go to the modules section
  • Drag and drop the wanted module into the module slot
  • Spend lots of c-bills
  • Press V during a match to toggle advanced zoom

Sweet this is what i was looking for...

But thanks guys...

Basically, i have an extra module slot on my mechs, and that is one i have unlocked, and it is only 2m, so i figured i would pick it up.. My thoughts on using are not necessarily for combat, But helping me see far off mechs for better scouting, though if i ever start playing my dragon again, i think it would be perfect for the gauss rifle

Btw, thanks for the info how lead time changes.. that will be usefull

Technically... It's a 4x zoom with a tiny window that gives a 5x zoom. Which would be great, if it would allow movement with the arms. :)
