Was thinking of getting one to use when I am dead drunk, or to play only 'mechs like the locust. Though I am kinda lazy and making a new account would take effort! So, I am hoping that the coming matchmaker replacement might let me play a locust without ruining the match for my side :)

Without card in hand, I started another account just to see what the grind is like. It's brutal to say the least.

it's tough, for sure, but can't say I found it that bad. What is bad is if you make that bad first mech choice.... THAT has got to be sorted somehow. Because if you do squander that cadet bonus, it is a long drag to making it back to the black. But will admit, I finally spent money on my account, but only because I decided to run it as aa Clanner.

That is way too much work just to troll the forums, don't you need at least 25 matches?

What exactly stops you from doing those things on your regular account?

Cadet bonus makes it easier for the newer guys that are not sitting on a pile of money :)

I don't have an alternate account personally, never needed it, but I can imagine it's easier to grind something with the help of a cadet bonus and against enemies that are supposedly a lot less experienced than you are.

Other than that, some people use alternate accounts to post on the forums for various reasons.

Pretty much the same reasons for doing it in MMOs.

Screw around.

See a different crowd.

Experience the "lowbie" life again... for a little while.

Try out something new when all your character slots (or mechbays) are full.

Those are all reasons I considered it. But when I eventually did roll an alt, it was just because of some giveaway. Figured that if I ever actually wanted an alt, I'd prefer to have gotten whatever that giveaway was for on it. At this point, it's been so long since I logged it in that I don't even recall what that item was.....

1. It is a real-time training environment (because quite frankly the testing grounds just do not cut it for experienced players)
2. It is a fun challenge not having tonnes of gear and the ease to do whatever you want (given I already have 80 mechs)
3. You do not have to de-assemble and re-assemble mechs in your primary all the time (with current mechlab it is a chore)
4. Sometimes a founder just needs to go incognito to get out of the spotlight...

5. If my GF wants to play :)

6. As one eye mentioned - Try out something new when all your character slots (or mechbays) are full.

I don't have an alt account, but if I had a reason, the #1 answer would always be mechbays.

The 3-mech grinding rule... despite NOT being a requirement, literally becomes MANDATORY IMO if you want to be efficient and effective. It's a self-handicap for success if you don't master the mech you are planning to use most.

Demon raises an EXCELLENT point! I should make more alt accounts to try out the Wolverine, Firestarter, and who knows what else I'd like to try w/out risking my paltry sum on C-Bills!

Alt accounts are nice for those of us who don't have loads of cash to dish out on mech bays, and for those of us who know that grinding out another ten mil will take a month or two, so why not just get the cadet bonus instead?

Honestly, I'm just curious. Those of you who have alt accounts...why do you? Since nothing is tradeable in this game, you may as well put all your mechs on one account and stock up...sharing modules, weapon caches...etc.

Granted, I CAN see having a 'camera' account for making movies/taking screenshots, or even a 'testing' account to try out crazy stuff if you care about stats, or to test the 'new player' experience.

Do you guys have alt accounts for any other reasons?

I have one alt account for playing with friends, etc. that are new to the game.
I also have an alt account when I just want to play and not see failed to find a match 2-3 times. New alt account = instant drops. I don't mind playing with trial mechs or anything, I just want to drop without waiting.

I made one to test some of the XP mechanics I couldn't test on this account, due to having to many masteries already done.

fear of epeen performance failure. It's kinda like viagra for the Epeen. Test on fake account, then run what works on "real" account. Though if stats really matter that much, they should just listen to you guys and run Meta. Might slightly improve epeen performance.

At least that is what the Meta Overlords must assume, amirite?

I'd say promising a huge feature in 90 days without having started on it constitutes lying; you're saying that you will have something soon while knowing you haven't started on it. You could say that there was just a gross inability to calculate workload going on there, and it wasn't an intentional lie, and I'd buy that- the first time CW was coming in 90 days, anyway. Every time it has been subsequently promised after that, Bryan and Russ have been very well aware that there is no way they are going to hit the deadline, and said it anyway. To say that they were unaware of their inability to hit the deadline implies a level of intelligence so low that they would have trouble with the realities of daily life, an unlikely situation given their status as owners and operators of a company.
