I can't quite get excited about the release of Clan Mechs, as House Liao doesn't capture many until very late in the campaign against the Clans. I can think of only a few examples of Liao units with Clan salvage:
  • Kai Allard-Liao's Stormcrow during Operation Bulldog
  • Kingston's Rangers, after the battle of Huntress
  • Northwind Highlanders, after they return to the fold of the Capellan Confederation
Since most of these occur later in the timeline, I think I will be passing on Clan Mechs for now.

They're designed to be Inner-Sphere statted machines, basically. While that means different, effectiveness for IS designs should be similar- and yeah, effectively zero Clantech in Capellan space in the early 3050's.

And there is a HUGE possibility that clan lights are going to a joke...
I think... I see this happening... Cheese build for Clan lights... JJs... DHS.. BAP.. As SSRM6 and ammo you can cram inside it.

Don't have to rap with just the canon.

No, but frankly- we're better than using garbage Clan 'Mechs.

If they'd actually made them superior and put in smaller unit sizes for Clantech, I'd actually consider it- because better 'Mechs with fewer pilots to make a full force would be useful to numerically inferior Capellan forces. They did not.

Instead, you'll have more expensive and less effective chassis that will put pilots at a developmental disadvantage instead. If PGI screws up and somehow does make Clantech better for some purposes, I'm sure we'll see limited use of it- but the gold-paintjobs are a good symbol of what things are like now. Overpriced shinies that only serve as target practice.

Well at this point in our canon the gatekeepers have captured at least one star of clan mechs and bonded their captain which is me ;) and captured not one but 3 of my summoners after a nasty run in with the gatekeepers and some swift rehablition I am a part of the CCAF with no love of the clans or my breeders, the clans cannot take the CCAF simply because we are the farthest part of IS space and already understand how their mechs armor reacts to our weapons, with in the next few months my engineer cast will have retro fitted the gatekeeper mechs with clan tech, so the davions better be worried not only by their clan intruders but their oldest rivals the mighty CCAF and the gatekeepers that defend its borders

Funny thing about Jumpship: they can go anywhere, with in 30 light years, but its hard to resupply so far out. In cannon and Lore, I see clan tech being a viable option for our Star Lord....albite a few years off.

Let the canisterbirths prance around in their canistertech.

The time will come when we will be able to field superior designs.

Behold the chancellors infinite wisdom and the mech designs which blossomed from it:

Yep. 3049 represents a point at which Liao research really hadn't taken off, nor was St. Ives part of the Confederation.

Peace and quiet while the FedCom was busy with the Clans gave Liao decades to pull themselves together, and combined with Xin Sheng, an entire new generation of Capellan designs sprang forth from the rebuilt results. Having Davion for a neighbor REALLY encourages innovation, and that really started in the mid 3050's with machines like the Thunder and Huron Warrior.
