Tactics and experience have always counted for a lot in all BT games.

I'm 23 and 5 years or so ago i was in a FPS competition ladder and we came up against TOG (the older gamers) i believe they where all over 50
they had a very good crack at us during our match and came close to beating us

i have been a competative gamer since i was about 11 and speaking from experiance people of any age can be a formidable force to go against
only reason its not as apparent is because the majority of competative gamers are young and dont have responsibilitys

gaming accessories are helpfull but not a game breaking advantage against real skill and skill comes from practice so as long as the elderly chaps wives think they are at the pub and not in the basement on the computer practicing im positive we will see some exceptional gameplay :D

and i know my spelling and grammar are terrible but what can i say... im a games dev

Well in regards to the original poster's inquiry, I'm also kinda reaching the dreaded big 30, and well from personal experience I would say a team of matured players who field a good mix of mechs in each role might actually have an advantage over cocky young hotshots who aren't willing to embrace role warfare and field an all assault or infighter team.

Teamwork is grand. Of course, the opposite can happen, I'm not saying all younger players are cocky or hotshots, I do know alot of sensible, humble younger players, and cocky older players who SHOULD be 'matured' but they just resort to rules lawyering and try to hide behind their knowledge of Battletech fluff and intimidate the younger players.

I'm really curious how the team-aspect will work in this game.

World of Tanks is a great game for team play in theory, but the reality of random-matches tells a different story - really hope the commander will give this game the edge.

This is a comabt orientated game, played in a simulated varied enviroment, spread over multiple maps, against multiple, variable enemies, in all types of terrain, in all types of weather, regardless of time or place.

Almost sounds like real combat doesn't it??

Guy by the name of Murphy came up with some rules for combat.

Some of them are:

"Enemy fire has right of way"

"The only thing more accurate than enemy incoming fire, is friendly incoming fire"

"If it is stupid and it works, it's not stupid"

" The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions:
a. When they're ready.
b. When you're not. "

"Professionals are predictable, its the amateurs that are dangerous."

"Odd objects attract fire. You are odd."

"The newest and least experienced soldier will usually win the Medal of Honor."

"A Purple Heart just proves that were you smart enough to think of a plan, stupid enough to try it, and lucky enough to survive."

I am declaring that long experience and general crankiness will give those with youthful reflexes and eyesight a run.

We're canny, we gamers over 40: it's the only way we've survived so long :D

I'm near 30.
I've played Battletech since the reveal of the Clans.
I've played the video games since MW2.
I can't even remember all the minis I've bought nor remember every battle I've played because I've done so many.
If a player wins, whatever age, against me I'm comfortable with it.
If I win I'll jump for joy.
Honestly the only one I'll compare myself to is myself. I'm like that with nearly every PvP game I have tried and that's the only thing that keeps me going.

As someone who has broken the 30 barrier, a year ago, it's not bad, just keep doing what you love.

i find that my past experiences in MW3 and MW4, was not really based on razor sharp reflexes, but on situational awareness and co-ordination.

See you on the field.

I think age doesn´t matter, there are good young and old players in this forum/game.
One point in BT and now MWO is the most important :a good teamwork. :D
Without it you get (old/young) endless your asskicked.

I see neo-gamers having a biased perception of how the 'Mechs should move and fire, etc... They will be used to environmental variables and destructible objects but not necessarily what kind of power a particular 'Mech represents. I figure that this game is fairly intuitive though so everyone should catch on pretty quick to what kind of weapon does what damage. I am a veteran and a field commander (Used to help run MechReg matches) but I don't see myself going down the Commander tree right away. For the neo-gamers, i see them all wanting to call down airstrikes and drones, etc... but I also see disaster there. I say the game should allow you to progress to that point (somehow) where you are effective in that role. I am imagining myself being an assault specialist and then having a true noob punching his finger on the battlegrid demanding that I go to a certain area, when maybe either I know better, or he/she is reading the data they are given incorrectly.

At any rate, yea I won't be able to pour time into this game like I did after High School in MW4 days, but I now have the ability to take as much time off work as I need to... so... I might be able to saturate myself in gameplay for a bit.

unless you are so old that your reflexes have taken a hit you should be able to keep up with the young whippersnappers :D (I'm 42 - also on the old side).

I have played many Mech leagues and the biggest problem was cheating with server speed when they hosted the matches. I hope with this we have to play here and eliminate the cheating..............you know when you shoot a mech at point blank range with shotguns in one leg and gets no damaged...they are cheating...i am very old....does anyone here know of Avlon board games I use to play that by snail mail...long before the internet or even cordless phones......hmmmmmm...1971

I'd say yes.. While the younger gamers will have an advantage with amount of time they can play they will not have the advantage of an older gamer IE disposible income to spend in game now this doesnt mean the money will give the older player an edge but all things considered Older + income into the game will level the playing field out right quick I dont think many 16 year olds will be pumping 120 bucks into this game since well they were only 6 when the last game even came out and do not have our LEGENDERY FOUNDER love of all things mechwarrior. Plus any of the older people that have played the many many multiplayer iteriations of mechwarrior in other Leagues can tell you even the old Assault fest slug fest could some times take like 40 minutes to resolve a battle Old people have great patience.

That being said Pretty certain every single one of the LEGENDARY founders is above 25.

I'm 22, love the tabletop and novels and been playing the games since since MW2. MechWarrior has always been more tactics than twitch-flexes; my money's on the older group. :D

in response to the previous quote I'm 22 and am planning on upgrading to legendary after my next paycheck.

My thought's on your question if those that have lot's of time on their hands, will have an advantage over those with out is, that I 'think' that's where the 'pay to catch up' comes in.

Hopefully, part of that time that you don't have is spent earning wealth, and as far as I understand it, if you divest yourself of some of that 'wealth' you should be able to 'catch up' gear wise to some one that has more time than money.

I think most of us are hoping that the 'cash option' will just 'catch us up' gear wise though - If it ends up that cash spenders have advantages over those that just have time to spend - I fear for the future of the game, as historically games that go this route don't do as well as games that don't.

But for now, every thing looks golden, Dev's continually re-assure us that 'Pay to win' isn't how this is gonna be - and that those with Time on their hands, but no cash's will be on even footing with those that spend some cash instead of time.

I sit on the '40' year old gamer team myself, I think we are gonna do just fine.

zWolf -out.

It's very Easy: All Gamers over 35 are consideres Solahma and get a Hunchback IIC.
Then we show this Greenbats why they don't deserve an Atlas and should use the Ejector before going into Battle.
