Every time I try to log in, it just says "Unknown Failure" and won't work.

I ran the patcher tonight, made no difference.

Any ideas?

And I'm not new....but not really sure where else to put this.

It is working now. For some reason it would not work when connecting to the internet via a wireless ethernet card. I reinstalled a wired ethernet card and now it works.

IP address conflict is one possibility. I have this when trying to play Combat Arms. What I have to do is connect a second wireless network to my wireless network and then connect to the second one in order to go through.

The other is the wireless might not have the bandwidth or is dying or something is kind of iffy about your wireless connection (i.e. if you have a laptop in the kitchen and the microwave is running you'll get disconnected).
