Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone else here is seeing this. I run a Sager NP8265-S laptop with a AMD 8970-m and Intel i7 47000.

I have the 13.12 Catalyst installed, and last night I upgraded to 14.4.

Perhaps of note to PGI, that MWO does not like this driver, or perhaps it's the driver that doesn't like MWO.

All other settings the same, Catalyst settings all the same as on the previous version.

Difference?

Tried with DX 11 and DX 9 modes.

Max GPu usage in MWO with 14.4 drivers was about 70%.. causing about a 20-30 FPS hit. FPS dropping to 20 or so in high action and generally hovering around 30.

Rolled back to 13.12.... back up to 91% max GPU usage (which still seems low but I have accepted that as an AMD user, with this game being an "nVidia" game, I must accept the shoddy optimizations :)) FPS is back up to between 40-60 depending on action.

Anyways... can anyone think of anything I might be doing wrong here, or seeing similar results?

I have no real need to upgrade the driver so I'll just stick with what works... but seeing such a huge performance hit is pretty crazy

You can try 14.7 RC1 Beta from the AMD page if it helps you.

Make a few log files, using FRAPS, HWiNFO, and GenericLogViewer; Let us know how the CPU loads are moving around …

Well, to follow up...

out of curiosity, after the young'n went to bed tonight I put on the last set of OEM drivers from Sager for my laptop. They released these back in November '13.

Holy sh*t. Glorious. Feels like it's even better than it was when I bought it last year (and truthfully, I don't think I have ever used the OEM drivers before.) Averaging 50-60 fps with dips into the low 40's/high 30's when there are loads of explosions and heat steam etc covering the screen.. (ultra settings, DX11, post-AA, vsync on)

River City for whatever reason seems to give me worse fps than any other levels. Always has though.

What did I learn?

Don't bother with AMD generic drivers

I'll be keeping these until Sager releases another batch :P
