Nothing breaks the game like ECM and PGI knows it. That is why you see it on so few mechs. If you are going to PUG it up and want to win, just take ECM mechs. Especially, if you are a "pilot" who doesnt break 200 damage each and every game. If you are one of those "pilots" feel free to help your team out and pick up some ECM, your W/L average will love you.

2 years behind the times as an elite founder. We already complained about this 2.5 years ago.

True dat.

On the one hand, I would encourage people to keep complaining, because PGI has made something like 10-15 weak attempts to balance ECM, and now finally seem to think that it's perfect.

On the other hand, I would recommend that people take a long, hard look at how much influence fans have had on how ECM works in this game. Absolutely zero.

Oh ECM I love you, Let me count the ways.

You stop working if you get NARCed, have someone with a BAP near you, have another ECM mech near you (who knows what the J button does), get Tagged, get spotted on seismics or shot by a PPC. Or aren't standing in cover (because it doesn't, despite popular belief, make you invisible and stuff like lasers, ACs, gauss rifles and PPCs remain hurty too).

Except if ECM worked as created:

Quote

Game Rules
  • In Tournament-level gameplay, the use of an ECM suite is to nullify the effects of other electronics, such as missile beacons, active probes, and fire control systems. It can also cut a unit off from a C3 Network.
  • In Tactical Operations, additional uses for an ECM suite are shown as optional rules, including defeating other ECM and generating ghost targets.
We would not need all those counters. :)

I don't think I have anything against ecm since they introduced the changes to Bap. It used to be godmode vs other streak builds and that bothered me. I dont dispute that its the strongest thing in the game. It counters a lot of things but nothing completely anymore.

No no... You have to drag the ECM to your crit slot. So its not point and forget. :)

Solo queue being so truly PUGish with a lot of squirrel chasing and bad communications multiple layers of ECM is awesome. Put on some LRMs if you can and rake in the c-bills.

At this point, ECM is an embedded part of the game.

You just have to be aware that its out there and you deal with it.

Unless you need radar lock to shoot, once you go visual, ECM is negated.

ECM is not a game breaker.

As long as you avoid a family of weapons and decades of lore.

If heat mode worked past 500m, ECM would be a much smaller advantage. On a slightly foggy map where the terrain and mech are similar colours, it is effectively invisibility at long range, until you start using lasers.

OK.

The guided missile shooters have a serious problem with ECM.

I say ECM is a good counter to guided missiles and it allows some stealthy movement under the umbrella.

It adds an uncertainty to the game - gotta watch my back for ECM covered mechs.

For the record, I don't own any ECM mechs.

Just met the enemy on Mordor, and they had 3 ECMs. My LRM boat did a total of 200 damage. Almost all of that damage came from a well placed Artillery Strike. TAG/BAP does not work against stacked ECM.
