Cool bug. Are you an administrator on your computer and do you have full rights to the folders where your game is stored?

Just saying that it seems like something that advises the game that it is up-to-date is not being written and I am assuming that happens somewhere in the MWO folder.

greetings,

As was stated, check the MWO game start icon.
(right click)
- select properties
- you should now be on the shortcut tab
- select advanced
- check off the box "run as administrator"

Also look at
- right click on the start icon
- select 'open file location'
- takes you to the Bin32 folder
- select the folder there "PatcherLogs"
- from there you should see a folder named 'backups' and 3 text files

- selecting the 'bootstrap_patcher_log.txt' should open a small text file
- it should have the info on the last patch # you installed. (#26 was last patch)

- select the 'frontend_Patcher_Log.txt' next, this should show the steps the patch installer completed.

Here's the example of some of this last patch:

(there is more but not filling up the page on the 'applying' and creating a backup, removing backup file lists.)

For Win7 systems if the game icon is set to run as Admin there should be a small shield icon on the bottom right of the icon.
(depending on what your display or theme is set to.)

If the game always wants to download the current patch, it's not being saved. And needs to place the info in a temporary location which is wiped when you log off.
(your operating as a 'User' and not an admin with full rights to most if not all the systems locations.)

- sometimes, but not always, a new MWO Patch install will overwrite the 'Run as Admin' settings and will need to be 'redone'. (simple to check)

If you moved the install location this may also have some issues with the Patch, as it's looking in it's 'default' install location and does not see the patch information.

See if that helps,
9erRed

Greetings,

Ok, your confirming that the files listed in the text locations, stated they downloaded and installed the last patch information?

- If you go to the game folder location and open the Bin32 folder, double click the 'MechWarriorOnline.exe' to start the game from that location, do you get the same results?
- game wanting to install again.
- or game running as normal

Almost sounds like your running the patcher or client exe and not the game start exe.
- If the game does start from the Bin32 location with that MWO.exe then copy and create a new shortcut to start the game.

Advise if anything changes,
9erRed

The start up exe. is loading from the correct place... But I noticed when the game is patched I have all the correct logs on my frontend_patcher_log and bootstrap.. But as soon as I play the game again and it repatches there is only this in the patcher_log folder

02/08/2014 10:50:32 - main - Config file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatchBot.cfg
02/08/2014 10:50:32 - main - Setting null proxy to False

02/08/2014 10:50:32 - main - Connecting for maintenance check.
02/08/2014 10:50:32 - main - Fetching patch inventory data..
02/08/2014 10:50:32 - main - Current version is unlisted, applying ZTN.
02/08/2014 10:50:34 - patch - Install Base
02/08/2014 10:50:34 - main - Fetching update from server...
02/08/2014 10:50:34 - main - Downloading....
02/08/2014 10:56:53 - main - Extracting patch zip...

So it would seem the fronted_patcher folder keeps deleting the informaton

Did you verify that you are the OWNER of the MWO directory and OWNER of all the files under that directory? Did you adjust the permissions on the MWO folder and everything under the folder so you have full control? This is done under the advanced button in the security tab. Also, do you have 'show hidden and system files' property set in your explorer?

Greetings,

Look at the game folder that has the games multi folders in it, (MechWarrior Online)

- Folder with the Bin32, Engine, Game, logs and users folders.

Right click on each of the first folders and check the Properties, look at the 'general tab, it should have the 'read only' box indicated as checked.
- next look at the securities tab, all the 'authorized' users for each folder should have 'full rights' checkmarks in the allow list.
(that would be SYSTEM', 'Administrators (name/name)', 'Users (name/name)')
- The listing 'Authenticated Users' will have everything except "full control' checked.

This is just to check and ensure that the game and the user have the correct rights to change/modify the games files.

Side note here: do you have the 'MWO Public Test' version of MWO installed?
- If yes, do you have similar issues with it?

Advise what you find,
(looks like I was a bit late in posting this, was doing research about this issue.)

I am getting this also.

I am speaking for two people that play MWO and have done since it launched had problems here and there but nothing like this.

Each time we launch the launcher it patches the whole game (downloading install base) then when its done we launch the game and it tells us there is a patch available and we close mwo and patch, then we launch after the patch and it tells us there is a patch available and we close and it starts (downloading install base) this just loops.

Now this is happening on 3 separate pcs 1 with an old previously working install, a new pc never had it installed before, and a recently installed working now not pc.

All 3 when you launch will try to patch the install base full game.

Here is the weird thing, if you close the launcher with out patching and re launch 4 out of 5 times it will tell you to patch the 5th it will launch let you in and play absolutely fine. There is not a thing wrong with the install. This works on all 3 pcs no fail. but closing and restarting the launcher over and over is a real real pain in the ... yea.

Just to note all have firewall rules, all have run as admin as default, i have checked ownership and permission on all files, tried fresh clean installs same each time, also run MWO repair tool nothing works other than just closing and relaunching the thing till it comes up play and lets you in without patching.

It probably is permissions. A previous patch, or the very patch you are downloading could have been trying to change the permissions of any one random file in the MWO folder and it not being able to would be enough for the patch to fail.

Right click on the Piranha Games folder in Program Files and not the MWO Folder inside it *Note that these instructions are similar to the ones above BUT NOT THE SAME*, some very important omissions have been made.

Firstly,

Open properties on that folder, uncheck the box in the 'General' tab that says "Read Only" then click Apply. If a little box pops up, make sure you have "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" selected.

The reason we do this for the Piranha Games folder instead of the MWO folder is that the updater downloads all your patches into a folder outside of the MWO folder called MWOUpdate. If the game folders are all writable but the Piranha games folder is not, then it's impossible for the updater to follow it's script of backing up your unpatched files then deleting them after.

Go to Security tab, and then Edit, its on the middle of the tab. Single click Users on the new window that opens (in in the box with the heading Group or User Names) and tick the Allow box on "Full Control".

This makes sure that, as well as setting the folder so that it's contents can be overwritten, we make sure that MWO is being run by the right user to be allowed to play with those files, by simply stating that any user can do anything to the files, including delete, execute and change the permissions on them (in case that is the reason that an update is failing).

Did exactly what you posted, and no effect still patches.

For some reason the mwo game patcher thinks the game is not the correct version even tho its the version its patching to.

Been running into this problem. Currently, been trying for a few hours, used all the fixes suggested, didn't work.

I keep getting it to pop up saying that there's not enough memory on my hard drive to patch it. Even though I tend to shave it a bit low, have 15 GB available. Methinks thats not the problem.

I was so hyped to try out the game with all the new quirks too. Poof, all that excitement has been replaced with frustration. Lame :(

Can anyone who is still getting this issue submit a support ticket to support@mwomercs.com for me (unless you've already done so) with the subject heading "Endless patching"?

Please provide me with the results of a DirectX Diagnostic, along with copies of the bootstrap_patcher_log and frontend_patcher_log located in your \MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatcherLogs folder.

How to obtain and attach a DxDiag
- Press Windows Key + R
- Type DxDiag
- Click Save All Information. If prompted about WHQL drivers, click no.
- If the Save All Information button is not present, simply click on Run (32/64 bit)DxDiag. The Save All Information button will appear after the diagnostic.
- Log file location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatcherLogs
- Attach the file to this support ticket. Please do not copy/paste the contents in the body of your message.

200 GB, not much compared to most, but its usually enough. I ended up just uninstalling and reinstalling the entire thing. Works just fine now.

Issue started happening to me after yesterdays patch....
I tried patching, reinstalling etc didn't seems to help.
Strange thing after I close and open the launcher several time the button changes from Patch to Play.
Then when tried to log in I usually get alert that there is a new patch but some times the game just lunch as normal.

Same problem, reinstalling the game doesn't work either.
