I can barely move around, never mind trying to hit anything.
My machine has RAM to spare and I'm using a GeForce GTX 260M which has always handled the graphics without breaking a sweat.
Anyone else suddenly having frame rate issues that make playing an absolute nightmare?

Had a few guys on these boards help me out tweaking my client earlier this year, guess there is no way I can increase my FPS since we already worked with most of the settings.

i7 2600k @ 4.7Ghz, 16GB 2133Mhz RAM, 2 x 4GB GTX680 @ 1.25Ghz.
ZERO performance issues with other games, at no surprise to me.

Much weaker than #4s rig, FPS 25-30 most of the time, but dropping below 20 during heavy combat. I should still be able to get more out of MWO, though. DX9/DX11 no differnce, everything set to Medium. Motion Blur & Damage Glow off.

I believe that these FX processors (or AMD in general?) are the reason in this case. I've played MWO since beta and always with similar fps like your. Had 17-40, average around 30. On moon map often <20.
My rig was...
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
Processor/CPU: FX-6100 @ 3,7GHz (because I had turbo boost on all the time)
RAM: G.Skill 4x4gb 1600MHz, 9-9-9
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6850, 1Gb
About a month ago my motherboard or CPU broke up for some unknown reason but I was 99% sure it's either of those, so I decided to buy Intel CPU this time. Due to reasonably small price ranges the only choice for CPU was i5-4690K (@ 3,9GHz) and Maximus VII Ranger motherboard for it. I haven't upgraded any other component BUT my fps raised immediately to 50-80... So I can't think of any other reason but CPU. FPS of Guild Wars 2 raised pretty much too. Motherboard wouldn't affect much, would it?

Hopefully, they'll get on top of this sooner rather than later, as I'd prefer to NOT be combat ineffective.

The issue isn't my CPU, I can run a wealth of other games that require mad computing power with out a hitch (The Witcher, Crysis 2, Dawn Of War 2, and such all of which have a load of atmospherics and texturing depth). Besides that before this last patch Mechwarrior ran smooth and looked great, so the issues isn't my hardware as far as I can tell from my own benchmarks.
But thanks for the info, it never hurts to keep it mind for future rigs.

Regular FPS between high 20's (around 28) up to 40 on medium/low settings.

The issue IS your cpu. I could run my 300+ Steam library just fine on the OC'd 4100FX but not mechwarrior, nuhh uh. It hungers, and you will notice a difference like night and day when you feed it what it wants.

I run MWO maxed out at 60 FPS on the 9590 system, and the 8350 system will only dip below 60 if I turn the AA all the way up...even then only under heavy combat...(or running thermal vision on Frozen city...oddly...)
I doubt it has anything to do with the CPUs. The game is just poorly optimized.

965BE, 8GB Ram, 6950 ATI
1680x1050, minimal settings, windowed
before last patch: 30-50 FPS
after last patch: 20-40 FPS
In brawls I am dipping in low 20ies and even high teens.

Their polycount is way above what any IS mech uses, and when there are alot of them being rendered on screen, blamo FPS goes pfffffft!
+LRM 9000 filling the screen always lags.
