PGI's made it clear they don't want that to happen, ever, so it's simply not happening.

It's not only unlikely, but would result in significant illegal activity, unfortunately.

.. for a cheaper rate than at the PGI store of course.
Of course this. Duh. If there's a buck to be made, someone will do it.
Could also lead to things like top units "recruiting" top pilots with C-bills.

It would just encourage hacking attempts and c-bill farmers, c-bill selling spam and all that crap!

You are right, every online game that allows trading between players is ruined, and the companies that made them all went bankrupt. MWO is literally the only game online left.
All sarcasm aside, how exactly would mech auctions let gold farmers make money?

Yes i think an INGAME "black" market would be cool.
Wouldnt be anti lore either. Mech commanders and mechwarriors buy sell and trade their mechs/parts all the time

"Auction" off a stripped down locust for 40,000,000 cbills. Pay the farmer. They win the auction.
That can be prevented by limiting auctions up to 100% of the mech or parts value. At that point, I don't see PGI doing it anyway because it causes less cbills to disappear to the void. Ever upgrade a mech to DHS then sell it? It feel like selling your car for a pack of gum.
*Oh, and there might be a legitimate reason to auction it off for 40,000,000 cbills. The thing could be pimped out with MC paintjob.

Here's the main reasons why:
1. Farming. Players would create multiple fake accounts to get cadet bonus, then transfer the funds to their main account.
2. Black Market Farming. The Chinese would be ALL over this like white on rice. You'd be able to buy millions of c-bills for a fraction of what you'd have to spend through PGI.
3. Phishers/Hackers. As it is now, there is very little reason to hack another player's account, aside from just being a jerk. If players were capable of transferring c-bills and other goods, that would change.
