I've been playing this game for a few months now, and managed to enjoy all of the regular MMO stuff (join a clan, experience clan drama etc). My ELO is probably somewhere in the middle tier (although I did play with JagerXII twice) and I just feel like I have reached the point where I ask myself "what do I do now to keep enjoying this game?
I only pilot light mechs and even though I have only mastered 2 different mechs (Spider, K-Fox), I don't feel there is any significant difference between the other available lights. I have no intention of playing heavies or assaults, still not 100% sure on mediums even after mastering the Nova. Everytime I play I keep seeing the same 5-6 maps over and over again, with the same tactics being employed and sometimes even the same people over and over again.
I those few months I have played the only new content released was mechs, no maps, game modes or coop. The UI hasn't changed and is light years behind games like World of Tanks where you can point your cursor over an enemy or a friendly and use some quick commands for example. I find myself less motivated to log into the game these days...I've accumulated over 30m c-bills (and no I will not buy new mechs, sorry) and got most of the good modules already. What's left for me to do to bring back the joy of playing, or even continue playing?

If you don't actually enjoy playing the game, there is nothing you can do except take a break and wait for it to evolve.

If you're not having fun, then leave. If you need someone to convince you to stay, you obviously should go.

Fear not, loyal listener. I too suffer from the occasional bout of ennui. What I recommend is a handful of vigorous games on de_dust2 though I am concerned about your unwillingness to engage in the capitalistic practice that has made this nation so great and Canada.....a place that exists near the U.S. border.

We've heard lots of talk about new maps and mechs and we've all had to wait a while but the while has been waited though I never gave up hope in myself nor debated.

If you can't say the same thing then take up another activity like wood working.

Take a break and come back, these games take time. I remember when WoT was in the place MWO is now. In need of new maps, new tanks, new game modes...you can only grind out the same content for so long, then you take a breather and get your "jones" back.

Once you allow yourself to get bitter at the game, it's almost impossible to find joy in the game again because the development for new content can't keep up with one's expectations of desire...nothing moves at the speed of "me". Take a few weeks off at least, or even a few months.

That's MWO. There's not much you're going to do in order to alleviate the repetitive nature. There's just not much game to play at the moment so when that sets in there's not much you can do except go play something else.

Have you tried cheer-leading for the development team that's producing all this awesome content?

Me neither.

Fixed.

You'll find even more to moan about after a break.

Seriously my experience is that I went from playing a pretty decent core of the game MWO was supposed to become back in closed beta at medium settings, which looked pretty awesome compared to MW 4, especially the mechs.

Over 2 years later I find myself stuck with mostly still the same very basic level of gameplay, which still is enjoyable, but too little to keep me hooked for serious amounts of time. The turn down for me is that the game took several performance hits and the game now litterally looks like that for me:

I kill super high poly mechs with washed out textures on them with effects that are on a level I found in MW 4, environments that look like taken straight from MW 2 with even lower res textures on them than the mechs and to top it off my pretty decent medium end gaming rig (plays Arena Commander on low with steady 60 FPS, plays ESO on highest settings at steady 60 FPS, plays Bioshock Infinite at highest settings at steady 60 FPS, plays Battlefield 3 and 4 on medium settings in multiplayer at steady 60 FPS) still mostly runs the game below 30 FPS. If this game wasn't Mechwarrior I'd long since deleted it, I stopped paying after the Jester Hero Mech was released. But the franchise won't cut it forever. PGI seriously needs to put their act together and get the game seriously going and not just abuse it to milk the cash cows with rose tinted glasses that, as the clan invasion proved, exist in quite the number within this community.

Pilot Heavies and Assaults as well of course. It's not as easy as you think being a primary target, you can't just run at teams, they will make short work of you. nobody misses an Assault mech... well some folks manage too, but don't ever rely on it.

Become more casual? It's an arena game. Those are always very fun at first. Then fun. Then fun once in a while... Unless you're one of the (un)lucky individuals that become obsessed and wind up having the game become part of their identity.

I missed a Dire Wolf yesterday while trying to help a teammate out with a Timber Wolf. That was a little embarassing, to say the least, since the sheer output of my Jagermech at the range he creeped up would have, under no exaggeration, reduced that Dire Wolf to a scrap heap in 8 seconds flat.

20 DPS FTW!

I get bored with the game pretty quickly and have to take breaks. I can only play the game for maybe a month and then take a few weeks off. We really need some different game modes to give the game some diversity for the lighter mechs.

I was a MechWarrior like you until I took an ARROW IV to the knee actuator. When I get burnt out here I load up Skyrim.

I started as a light exclusive pilot, but learned that to keep it fun/fresh, variety is important. I now have nearabouts 130 mechs mastered out. Each weight class plays differently from the others, with challenges, perks, etc. Learning how to drive assaults means you get better at fighting against assaults, heavies teach you to fight heavies, etc. - walling off 3/4 of the game is, of course, going to make it boring. Try new things, dont take it too seriously, and have fun :)

Do you have all game modes checked?

I get bored if I only play one or two game modes.

Take breaks. I do on a regular basis. When it feels like a job and not like I'm having fun, I take a break. Come back refreshed and ready to play.

What is the purpose of this thread? If you don't enjoy the game, play something else.

Or if you do enjoy the game but are just bored...then maybe try challenging yourself and play mechs outside of your comfort zone.

It's not rocket surgery.

There's an actual difference between them? I've always found that they all devolve into giant shootouts whichever mode you get. Used to be Assault was the least shootouty one, then they added turrets in and made it so you couldnt force people out of the big shootout in the middle without sacrificing a couple mediums.

Its why I was honestly confused when they added Skirmish in since games rarely, if ever, end due to cap or points. The only time my games of conquest end with points is if 2-3 people on one side actually spent a majority of their time cappin points and their team didn't completely fold by being 2-3 people down. Even then its such a giant waste for them because there isn't any actual incentive to cap points other than the abysmal amount of cbills it gives you, and even then everyone on the team gets it while you don't get any damage cbills.
