If we'd be getting a new variant of anything, I still call foul that the Grand Dragon variants are not included in MWO. As though swapping the AC for a PPC and tacking a "Grand" onto the name makes it a different mech.

Indeed. Dragon 1G is a must in MWO. From Sarna:

Quote

DRG-1G
Arguably the original Grand Dragon produced in 3024, this 'Mech is little more than a variant of the Dragon. The 'Mech is armed with a PPC, LRM-10 launcher, and a trio of medium lasers split between the left arm, right torso and rear left torso. It is also only capable of achieving a top speed of 86.4 km/h, as it employs a standard fusion engine due to the technical imitations of the Third Succession War.

The Dragon 1G is still a Dragon variant, while the K series are all Grand Dragons.

Also looking at you, Crockett/Katana and Daboku/Mauler.

And the Charger/Hatamoto...

PS: I really wish the Mauler is added to the game. It will probably be my ride of choice (4x AC/5s FTW!). The devs mentioned it was in the concept art stage, but what must be holding it is the lack of 3 (formal) variants.

Yes, many of the initial 'mechs didn't really follow any particular order for the lettering. Even the Dragon, which was a home-grown DC design doesn't actually use the "K" moniker until later on in the years.
I think that may depend on the developer/company. Some 'mechs seem to follow alphabetical progression (such as the aforementioned Jenner), whereas others suggest that the letters refer to a specific meaning regarding its role or variant (see Centurion). Yet others rarely use letters for variant differentiation and instead employ numbers (see Highlander). Different BattleMech design studios mean different approaches to denomination, I suppose.

... or at least I would hope that there is some in-universe meaning behind the letters, though in all honesty it probably depends on the writer who came up with it in the real world! Not that we would have to accept this. ;)

When will the Mauler get a greenlight? It's been a year already... :/

I would also like to add that Kurita has a considerable number of HGN-732s and HGN-733s both, while Liao and Steiner has a small number of HGN-733s.

House kurita maintained an alliance with house Marik and house Liao from 3039 called the http://www.sarna.net...cord_of_Kapteyn Concord of Kapteyn, in which house Marik did quite traded designs and sell mechs to house Kurita; such as Orions.

Kintaros and Highlanders were given to the DC by Comstar for some reason in the 3030's. I don't remember why but I remember reading about ti when I was researching Marik Mechs

They were given mechs by ComStar by allowing the FRR independence, which also let to the Ronin War

Comstar gave HK quite a few Mechs that are considered rare due to no IS House manufacturing them, but gave them variants that were downgraded from the SLDF "Royal" variants that the ComGuard still had.

Except when they didn't because they forgot to, even interstellar conspirators get it wrong sometimes, and if them getting it wrong means that the DC get a few more DHS or GECM suites then so be it.

So can Kurita start using clan mechs yet? We've picked up quite a lot of scrap metal... We've got this Madcat that's had its legs chopped right off, and then there's this other pair of Madcat legs we found just standing there perfectly pristine, who knows where the rest of it went but if you put two and two together...

I call dibs on those dozen Hellbringers I wrecked so far, those things go fast enough to keep up with Dragons yes?
