The 1st Stretch Goal for Transverse has been cut in half to $500,000 :o

What does that mean? Can we get some official comment on that please?

also and I quote

'The $500,000 goal gets us to an alpha state on ship construction, flight, combat, and harvesting. While release of the final, fully developed feature for each module is dependent on future funding, this is our first major step towards making this trans-human spacesim a reality. Backers who are a part of hitting this goal will get full access to the alpha builds.'

This seems to worded a bit wonky as it seems to suggest a playable alpha upon reaching of the first stretch goal...

Based on a post from Bryan Ekman, they said if they don't hit that first stretch goal in 30 days, they will refund the money contributed so far and use other funding sources to continue to develop the game.

So, if they move the stretch goal to be $500, they won't have to give any refunds?

So basically **** guys this money grab isn't working.

Half the stretch goal....and if that doesn't work we'll take money from MWO!

Dat "Travesty" is waste of money.

Cause... no space dreadnought, cruiser, batlecriusers, titans and so on. It's just some crapy fighters. What a poor crap for such load of money.

So let me get this straight:

* half a million for alpha gameplay
* a million for non-alpha flight
* million and a half for non-alpha construction
* two million for non-alpha combat

... and they've managed $6,500 in the first two days?

And, to add insult to injury, they've already developed the alpha back in 2013 when they said they were working on CW for MWO?

Yeah.

Edit: My mistake, they spent that time making the release video, not an alpha.

Like, how could anyone willingly give their money to something that is no where near concrete and changes daily? You might as well tear your money in half because good luck expecting a refund.

There is no alpha, Russ stated the initial funding comes from an official canadian program. As much as I think this game is bound to fail for various reasons, at least get your facts straight.

It's a crazy short period of time they are giving themselves. I'd say they would need a year or more to hit 500K at the current rate. I guess the White Knights will be getting their money back...

Indeed, on a closer read you are correct. They spent the time they said they were working on CW for MWO on making a video for Transverse.

Mea culpa.

I bet they were all 40+ of them working on that video, 24/7.

It means "We realized we won't meet our original goal, but we'll be damned if we honor our vow to refund our backer's money if that happens, so we have chosen to move the goalposts in our favor."

Yeah, Transverse is going to crash and burn. There's already Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous out there, and due to that alone, I don't Transverse ever had a chance. I hold no interest in Transverse, and me not caring for it has nothing to due with PGI's work on Mechwarrior Online.

That being said, with Mechwarrior Online, the only real title that PGI can use to show their competetence as a developer, is currently unfinished by their own standards. I think the thinking of trying this now instead of a few months from now when CW is out is that there will be a better opportunity at gaining funds, but in doing so it made them look they'll never finish a game they ever work on, and nobody who takes a five minute look into the development of PGI's flagship title will see that its unfinished. I'm not wishing ill for PGI, I just don't understand what the thinking behind starting the funding now. Even just announcing it now, I could kind of understand, but starting funding now, and saying "If we don't reach out goal in a month, we'll stop" without much credibility dooms it, even without either the competition from SC and E:D or the blowback from /r/transverse

It means "We realized we won't meet our original goal, but we'll adjust our sights to something more practical and try to move this game forward"
