Pgi Branches Out?

So I hear that PGI are intending to take the MWO universe that they've been developing and set up a rival to Roberts Space Industries game, Star Citizen. It sounds like this is in lieu of continuing to develop it for MWO. Can anyone confirm or deny as I can't see too many MWO players being too thrilled about it if this is fact.
