Y'know, I had been wondering if you could do that. Now I know.

On a strange note, I scored a UAV kill yesterday on Alpine with an Arty strike....

so counter function, when the UAV of the enemy is above you, you can place an airstrike between your feet to possibly destroy it, because you can't turn youe CT up high enough

xD

because he needs some crazy light pilot running through the opponents and activate a UAV

Also works when a group hiding behind a hill decides to deploy a UAV themselves :)

IF you miss....................guess what.....................that arty lands a few light years behind them.......

You know how hard it is to shoot down a UAV? thats the size of the hit box!

You need to watch the range to the target and press only when you get a reading; then you get a hit for sure.

I have seen this used in a match while spectating, and tried it myself a few times, but now we have to ask one question.

When will it get nerfed, now that it is out?

It is fun as hell to do it also. Watching the other team look around.

BTW It looks completely legal to me. You have to give map coordinates to call in a strike. Why not give UAV's? It streams own coorditates as well as recon data to the team

I've used the drone trick about a twenty times now looking at my notes:
No more, not enough return for the risk.

I discovered I wound up doing collateral TEAM damage three times-including a team kill ffs. I'm guessing a spider ran thru our forward group, or they pushed the line, launched and retreated?

8 times missed the drone and tossed 40K at the ∞ guessing it landed off the map- easier than you'd think, that drone thing floats up and down! I assumed it was rock steady stationary.
7 times I KNOW I hit the drone (zoomed in, had distance reading) and nothing, no red cursor telling me I'd done well
Only twice they were good solid hits. The little yellow text thing scrolled down component hits etc.

I'm much more worried about spotting an enemy drone in the air and my team is seemingly oblivious to it.
Perhaps an achievement??
"F The Police" Knock down 5 enemy drones during battle.
"News Channel PGI" kill ten drones.
"Occupy THIS" kill 50 drones

Not to detract from the OP's intent in sharing this, but I'm only 3 months new, and I knew about this, thought this was the common way to target arty nowadays? I've had this done to me, and seen it done many times to lethal effect.

That Dawg: Exactly! That's the way tricks work. They don't do the job all the time and the desired effect can be quite opposite.

One way (of many) to get it useful is to help the base from a capture. A friendly light jumps on the base to stop the capping, does some shooting, gets legged, drops an arty on itself, launches a drone and dies. Rest of team - if too slow or too damaged to stand on the base - uses the drone to do some more strikes on the base without having a visual on it.
